It wasn't always like this since we even made Megas XLR, but American media is so fucking horrid and thoughtless, that the concept of fun has been drained from it.

I generally love the Japanese take on various fantasy things (and anime and Japanese games are the only good modern media) but I have to give Western mecha a lead on this. I wish it was still around, but like many things we can only feel nostalgic for better times. I'm just not interested in humans piloting what are basically robots, I like them to be more mechanical.

Every second family has a robot vacuum, you can buy a shitload of cheap tech connected to cloud, we can wirelessly talk with each other over huge distances and access the sum of humanity's wisdom. Giant robots no longer feel exotic, they feel dumb as fuck compared to actually practical solutions we have in everyday environment.
