Was this really Vietnam for gamers? The SNES always seemed so much better in every way. Even if you were a normalfag who liked sports games the SNES had plenty and it had Mode 7 to make them look and play way better.
The SNES was better in the end, but prior to 1994 it was the closest competition between two consoles in American gaming history.
>>731142582>Took Nintendo paying a bunch of bongs to develop the tech so they could develop $100 cartridges at a loss to win>Sega spent so much money on the CD and 32XIn hindsight I think both companies exhausted themselves during this era and it's a major reason why both fell on their faces the next generation.
>Vietnam for gamersThe fuck???
>>7311419381994 was the first year SNES overtook Genesis in yearly salesConversely, this was the same year Sega started to push 32X and Saturn, and the majoity of 'must-play" SNES titles (DKC, MMX, FFVI, Super Metroid etc) were released around this point
>>731144690It was so traumatizing it requires regularly eating a fairly small amount of McDonald's for an average sized person
>>731144768Was also when Nintendo went lax with their draconian censorship. SNES mortal Kombat II was uncensored and much better looking a d sounding than the Genesis version and arguably played better too. That and DKC helped tip the scales and Sega more or less letting the Genesis drift rudderless in 1995 due to the 32X and upcoming Saturn only made the gap bigger.
>>731144768So Nintendo fans have always been bitter revisionists who inflate the relevance of Nintendo consoles and games?
>>731145186>Genesissies still bitter 30+ years laterlol
>>731145180True>>731145186Nah, it's more like both consoles starting on equal grounds, but SNES eventually outpacing it due to multitude of reasons. Kinda like SG-1000 vs Famicom, or Saturn vs PSX in Japan
>>731141938>>731144690Now we gaming.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYCLKhHRl9A
>>731141938This is common because SNES sold more in the end, Nintendo's still around and Nintendo fans dictate online discourse more than SEGA ones, but during the rivalry it was neck to neck, SNES had the better late game, but the first few years the Genesis had a strong hold on the American market thanks to arcade titles, which were a big deal then, sports, and Sonic. I also find people that didn't grow up with them prefer SNES since it's less arcade like, as it was big mostly in early 90's.
>>731141938The mega drive library seemed much more shallow and arcadey to me.Any time I played it I got bored pretty quickly.
>>731141938Where did this lie came from? No, it was more like the Falklands War. Nintendo barely had to do anything to wipe the floor with Sega. Hell, even back then Sonic was seen as the 6th or 7th best 2d platformer.
>>731141938Yeah, the winner was obvious, but some people were stuck with the Genesis and felt compelled to defend the honor of their house and namesake. It was more of a warring states situation, rather than Vietnam.
