What PC handheld do you have?
Are you planning on getting one?
What games are you playing on it?.

I'm using a Legion go 2 as a dual monitor lol
>>
>>731143672
Steam Deck LCD. I'm not getting a new one. I'm playing most of my games there, mainly games from older consoles as well as some indie PC games.
>>
>>731143923
Do you have it connected to an external GPU?

I'm finally upgrading from my rog ally z1 extreme to this monster of a device.
Expensive as hell but I don't see games getting more demanding in a while and it runs effectively everything on medium or high.

Steam deck oled I got for 350 like new off facebook.
I've mostly been using it to play pokerogue in bed. Beat a mono electric run last night.
>>
>>731144324
Sounds fun is it a good game? Should I download it?
>>
>>731144259
Don't bother it's a meme
>>
>>731143672
I have the Xbox Rog Ally X, barely using it but last game I played in it was Bannerlord
>>
>>731143672
yeah I got a legion go s and an OLED deck, they're fantastic. almost went for one of those handhelds with a 395 inside but they're too damn expensive
>>
>>731144483
What's the meme about it?
I did a lot of research before I made the commitment.
>>
>>731144583
Don't get the 395 variants. It's literally too much CPU core for very little gain because they eat too much power.
The 385 version are like 400 dollars cheaper and run everything at neglectable fps loss.
There's videos on it even.
>>
>>731144049
No I don't think egpu is ready for primetime just yet
Maybe with USB 5
>>
>>731144579
Ain't that just the normal Xbox ally? Not the Xbox ally x?
>>
>>731145646
No, I bought a white rubber case for it

Ah neat.

There is a standalone version of it. I just play through the browser because it's an easy way to sync my savefile. I really like it. My friend's opinion is "it is my favorite pokemon game, because it just turns it into my favirite aspect of pokrmon, an interactive puzzle where the pieces are funny creatures.
I've also been playing diablo and terraria. Terraria with a controller is sorta miserable though. Idk how the 3ds players tolerated that.
>>
>>731146340
I'll give it a shot then
>>
Are any of these devices actually worth the price point? Of are they still ment for enthusiasts?
>>
>>731143672
Steam Deck LCD, 64GB model. I upgraded the SSD to 1TB. I've had it three years now. It will have to last as long as it can because I'll probably never afford the OLED model.
>>
>>731146907
Only the cheap Steam Deck models were really worth it, they've been discontinued though so now you need to shill out more than 500 bucks to get a decent one

Only Gigachads use Steam Deck.
>>
>>731147013
My problem with them is that they are technically stronger than the switch 2 but there are so many games that specifically optimized for Switch 2 that it doesn't matter how much stronger some of these other devices are.
Most of them can't run games like star wars outlaws in an even remotely playable state
>>
>>731147126
I hate the stick and d pad position on it so much but it does look like the most established product.
>>
>>731147258
Personally I find it really well done. Though, I will admit, I stick to the left trackpad instead of the d-pad.

I haven't played it in a few months, but I limit the FPS to 30 or 45 and set graphics to the default "Handheld" preset, which is in the game under graphics settings, if I'm not mistaken.
Make sure you have a solid connection since it's unfortunately always online. It'll help prevent lag and stuttering.
Runs flawlessly once you do all that.
>>
>>731147828
Oh well that's neat I honestly thought the steam deck didn't play it very well without insane visual drops like cyberpunk

I'm pretty retarded with noticing visual drops (I'm also partially blind and require glasses 24/7, so that might be why) but from what I can tell, it's flawless and looks quite good at the same time.
I do notice visual drops when my connection is weak, but otherwise it seems fine.
>>

The driver's,the hardware has problems and the company.
>>
I like my Steam Deck
Going to buy a Valve Cube
>>
>>731143672
So... do smartphones count? I'd say they're essentially computers now.
>>
>>731148724
not until valve officially makes steam mobile into a proper gaming platform and properly and directly ports proton
winlator and all its derivatives suck cock
>>
I've had a Steamdeck for a long time but barely use because its really uncomfortable to hold imo, and my hands are not small.

My only solution was to use a bluetooth controller while laying the SD on a table but kinda defeats its purpose.

Still really cool what you can do with it.
>>
>>731143672
>What PC handheld do you have?
A Steam Deck 64 GB LCD, to which I replaced the HD with a 1 TB SSD. I love it so fucking much; after buying it I started playing games again.
>Are you planning on getting one?
The next one I'll buy will be the Steam Deck 2 as soon as it gets released, nothing else.
>What games are you playing on it?
Generally old games, emulated games, porn rpgmaker games and so on.
I also play some things like Outlast Trials, Phasmophobia and more, docked to a monitor with m&kb.
>>
>>731148445
I haven't heard any complaints about the drivers

>>

Smartphones are strong enough now for sure but the software is just incompatible still
>>
>>731149459
if i were you i'd buy a cube and a portable monitor
you place it down anywhere you want and you have a gaming setup in less than 2 minutes
>>
>>731148724
I got the red magic 11 pro and it's fucking awesome.
The game sir controller add on feels great.
I may just have to buy a normal controller from them considering how good it feels.

Has anyone gone from an LCD to an OLED steam deck, how is the difference, do you consider it worth the cost?
>>
>>731150403
the difference is down almost entirely down to battery life and your desire to play at higher refresh rates
>>
>>731150403
ya

performance is identical. oled is nice and the screen is 90hz instead of 60, bezels are way less ugly. battery is bigger. unlike the original eck, setting tdp is an actual hard limit so you don’t really ever want to do it. two things no one ever really mentions is just how much faster it charges and downloads stuff which is actually a really big convenience factor. I would say it’s not really worth upgrading unless you really love your eck
>>
Any future proof handhelds?
I wanted to get the steam deck but I hear it's outdated.
I just want to play new games at 1080p 60fps.
>>
>>731150403
Many people don't realize that the deck OLED is significantly lighter, and this is probably the single biggest difference.
Larger OLED is obviously amazing and the battery is somewhat improved.
You will not notice any other differences than this so if those two things matter it's worth it
>>
>>731150837
no
best you're getting is 4x deck performance at a blistering 70w power consumption with the gpd 8060s handheld that costs more than 3x the deck oled while not having an oled or trackpads
>>
>>731150837
It's hard to say at the moment because AMD 385/395 are a huge improvement over Z2 Extreme but the devices that currently use it are, in my opinion, not very good otherwise.
Intel is preparing a chipset that can rival AMD but who can say if it will be powerful enough, efficient enough, or cheap enough.
Future proofing right now is locking in on SOMETHING before the price gets higher and stays higher for the foreseeable future.
Legion Go 2 is the best "mainstream" handheld made by a reputable brand right now and GPD5 is the most powerful, so decide for yourself if either are viable for you long term.
>>
>>731143672
Don't have one, I'm mostly into chinkhelds. I've been searching on and off a little here and there looking for something between a chinkheld and a handheld PC, but I haven't pulled the trigger on anything. I don't really want a FULL PC handheld because I don't want it to be huge, I want it to have reasonable power use, and I feel like I'd be at a higher risk of it being stolen.
The issue is that in the "upper chinkheld, lower PC handheld" space, everything's getting glass-front panels, which I think just feels gross and looks stupid, which heavily limits what shit I'm willing to pick from.

Just get the Thor and call it a day. It can even do light PC gaming, or streaming if you have a desktop.
Pretty much checks all your boxes IMO, if I only could have 1 device I'd probably pick this one because it can do a little bit of everything
>>
>>731143672
Which one should I buy? I had a lcd eck that acked and got $300 in insurance shekels since they couldn’t fix it
I want something stronger than lcd deck
>>
>>731151445
android gamer phones are going to get a lot more interesting with xperia play patent expiring and valve porting proton to arm
>>
>>731143672
I have a Deck. Last thing I played on it was Card-en-Ciel.
>>
My Steam Deck’s battery is incredibly weak and I’m not sure what to do about it other than replace it. I can only run a game off the battery for about an hour before it shuts the bed.
>>
>>731151901
At what power draw?
>>
>>731151671
If your budget is 300-500 the only real option for actual performance gains is a used Z1 Extreme device like the original ROG Ally and Legion Go. Ally X tends to be 550-600 if you can stomach that and want to future proof with 24gb RAM. Legion Go S Z1 Extreme with SteamOS is basically a Steam Deck Pro but it's no longer 650 like in November so it's a harder sell.
>>
>>731151032
The win5 does have a track pad.
Barely but it is there
>>
>>731150837
The gdp win5 one onexfly apex are probably the most future proof right now.
But they are bloody expensive. And while overall competent devices they lose a bit of appeal of handheld with the removable battery. It's a good design choice though for current tech to not overheat
>>
>>731148724
They have been "essentially computers" for a long time now but the kind of games they get are ass and are forced to work with the touchscreen which is like the worst input method for a video game imaginable. So no not really, they don't count, unless literally all you want to do is emulation and also buy some strap-on controller thing so you don't have to use the touchscreen.
>>
>>731151598
I kinda wanted one, but:
>glass panels all over
>capacitive touch screen, limiting use for DS/3DS, the thing you'd expect it to be the best for
>hinged systems make me paranoid
>wait lists to buy it
That said, I wouldn't be that surprised if I ended up picking it in the long run, IDFK.

>>731151729
Yeah, could be fun. I'm happy with my own phone though, and I use VoIP for calling, so I can use any Android chinkheld (with a mic) as a phone if I wanted, so I'm not really the target audience in 202X.
God, I was THIS close to buying the Xperia Play when it came out, but IIRC it didn't support the phone services I would've wanted at the time, and I think I lost my job shortly after that anyway.
>>
I kinda wish the legion go 2 controller worked more like the switch 2.
Gotta give it to Nintendo the swaps to mouse mode are seemless.
>>
>>731152673
yeah, personally i'm hoping my redmagic 9 pro has its proprietary blobs released, haven't used it for fucking anything really and it'd just be wasted
i'd love to move my phone to linux too
though if the unicorn phone that supports linux out of the box and has that slide out gamepad i'm impulse buying it
>>
>>731143672
>What PC handheld do you have?
LeGo S 32GB
I passed up on the $650 Black Friday sale because I predicted I would end up not using it, but with the supply being as fucked as it is I figured if I didn't get one now I might not have another chance, so I picked it up for $750
>What games are you playing on it?
Absolutely nothing as I had predicted
>>
>>731153585
That's a shame.
Sorry to hear that man
>>
>>731143672
What's about android phones with Snapdragon and Winlator app?
>>
>>731150632
The thing is that you are not going to play games at 90 fps on that thing. LCD is arguably better for 30 fps gaming.
>>
>>731154359
Outside of emulation the biggest thing holding the phone market back is the lack of native transference of games.
Valve could do it I guess but outside of that you are basically stuck with what's on the play store or apple store.
>>
The mass market demand just ain't there for these things yet.
The actual affordable versions can run anything modern at a playable rate and even then they are still massively over priced.
The z2 extreme is an embarrassment of an upgrade.
>>
>>731155806
Can't*
>>
>>731154359
Wait a couple of weeks, Valve have made a "Proton" for ARM and because it's Valve and not Tim Weeney, also based off of Linux it won't be locked to a single eco-system, all androids phones are going to be able to play x86 games at near native performance very soon
