Is this (analogue 3d + summer cart 64) a good route to scratch my intro to retro gaming itch? I'm increasingly over modern gaming with every yearI'm open to a alternative to either, but after a bit of research these seem like a good way to go for me
>>731154020the summercart kicks ass so you are gonna be fine with it at least
>>731154313Thx, that's my feel for it
>>731154020I have an Analogue 3D and I'm quite enjoying it. It's easily the best way to play N64 games right now. On the downside, the firmware currently lacks polish and some promised features. I'm hoping it mirrors the Pocket, which received several substantive software updates after release. I had a Pocket from the first batch, but the people who got one a year later had a much better first impression. I couldn't comment on the flash cart. I have a dozen games to keep me occupied for now, hoping there's a 'jailbreak' to play ROMs from the SD card before long.
>>731154020Yeah, go for it. I use an N64 + Everdrive for NES, SNES, and Game Boy titles. I haven't picked up a modern game in four years.
>>731155210>hoping there's a 'jailbreak' to play ROMs from the SD card before long. You mean in the system itself?>>731155539Do you mean you play legit n64 cartridges? Or everdrive for gb, (s)nes and 64?
>>731156182Several other Analogue systems got firmware updates after release that allow ROMs to be played from the SD card.
>>731154020I bought one last year and I absolutely love it. A perfect combo with a CRT to get that retro feeling. I also loaded some modded ROMS on there to play some new games.
>>731154020the fpgas are impressive but the n64 is like the only system where u really just need original hardware for accurate playyeah ur gonna pay for it but treat it like an investment thatll go up in value
>>731156703So as it stands right now, the A3D might not be able to play something like the summer cart?>>731157234Is there something distinctively different? I just had a kid and I need (relatively) cheap and simple , but if the original hardware is the way to go, I'd be open to that
>>731156182>Do you mean you play legit n64 cartridges? Or everdrive for gb, (s)nes and 64?The latter. There are emulators for the latter two systems that run on console. The SNES emulator is a WIP but you can run through some games just fine, although I don't think it works on Analogue. The NES emulator is pretty good and the GB emulator is spot-on outside of a few weird cases. GBC games are a little rough. That's all moot though because of what >>731156703 said
>>731154020unless n64 is the only retro console you're interested in you are much better off with a mister, it does everything 5th gen and below
>>73115862364, PS2, dreamcast, and eventually I want to get a wii u to mod so I can play wii u, wii, and I would imagine gamecube games all in one machine
>clone console with a flash cartWhat is this supposed to accomplish? That's like buying a horse to ride your bike for you instead of just driving a car (emulating)
>>731154020What do you have for a controller? You really need an original first-party thumb stick if you want proper accurate control. Third-party sticks all have improper range and massive deadzones which lead to them being overly sensitive with bad angle snapping. You will not be able to play anything like Goldeneye or Perfect Dark properly with a third-party stick.
>>731157794>So as it stands right now, the A3D might not be able to play something like the summer cart?It works with Summer Cart, and a few other flash carts. I'm talking about the future possibility of playing ROMs from the SD card slot, without needing a flash cart.
>>731159253I was planning on the 8bitdo for most, but the original for games like pokemon stadium>>731159616Ah, gotcha. I don't mind spending the extra little bit to support the makers of the sc64>>731159234Because 99ish% accuracy is cool and all, but I like the aesthetics of consoles, and this from what I gather is THE best route at logistically playong any and everything at 100% accuracy
>>731158902Why not just get a Steam Deck? It'll pretty much emulate anything you could ever want.
>>731161060See >>731160648>Because 99ish% accuracy is cool and all, but I like the aesthetics of consoles, and this from what I gather is THE best route at logistically playong any and everything at 100% accuracyAlso, I have a nice tv, I wanna use it. I don't have any interest in anything like the deck, and I maybe have played 40 total hours handheld mode on switch
>>731161894Dock the deck then. I only suggested the Deck because suggesting an actual PC seems overkill for what you want, especially considering the state of PC building nowadays. Hell, now that I think about it, why not go for the Steam Machine when that drops? I feel like that checks off all the boxes. Personally, I think it looks pretty sexy despite it just being a matte black cube
>>731161060>>731162519I own a deck and recently got a Summercart for my N64playing on the original console is going to be the best way to play the games in most casesbut it's still neat to play F-Zero GX in my bed
>>731162519>>731162519>Personally, I think it looks pretty sexy despite it just being a matte black cubebased
>>731163449I just like the idea of a dedicated machine that will be 100% authentic, plus more. I have no interest in doing anything else than perfectly recreating gaming experiences on their native hardware, or through an enhanced version like analogueMy only gripe is getting a og controller to use the transfer pack I somehow still have to play pokemon rbygsc on pkmn stadium 1/2
