Did mechanical keyboards make membrane keyboards obsolete?
if you have anything other than a basic office keyboard like that, you're on your way to trooning out same applies if you have more than one monitor
idk whats is

>>731509861how far on the way am i if i have a normal boring looking mechanical keyboard and one monitor
>>731509861People have been using multiple monitors since the fucking 90s.
nah mechanical keyboards existed before membrane ones. it's more other way. membrane made mechanical ones obsolete for a time. then someone had the idea of marketing mechanical ones as luxury items for 10 times the cost. both do the job fine, but membrane is just cheaper and lasts longer without maintenance problems

How do I clean this thing
>>731509861ok
>>731510314>membrane is just cheaper and lasts longerThey do not last longer. The reason why I started using mechanical keyboards was because I started wearing down keys in a few months while playing StepMania.
>>731509861Fpbp
>>731509861agreed
>>731509861still have the same microsoft keyboard for almost 2 decades working perfectly, and I clean it frequently
>>731510365spray it with canned air for a few seconds every few months
>>731510314>then someone had the idea of marketing mechanical ones as luxury items for 10 times the cost. Moreso Cherry's patent on the switch design expired, so mucking about with more switches than linear red, clicky blue and "tactile" lol brown became possible. Recall that Gateron and Outemu started life as switch manufacturers by bootlegging Cherry switches
No, I violently dislike any kind of mech keyboard

Surely you guys use a split keyboard? Or are you actually irreversibly damaging your shoulders and hands?
>>731509861>90% of /v/ is transSisters...
>>731510764Why? There are so many options you can pretty much get exactly what you'd want in a keyboard with mechs
>>731509751No, when people realized they have 100 points of failure instead of one (the membrane) they became a meme
>>731511492*pulls switch out**puts new switch in*aiieeee this is literally impossible
>>731511492I've never had a mechanical keyboard fail on me. And if a switch breaks, I can just swap it.
>>731511294You split your keyboard like you split your ass cheeks for dick, faggot.
>>731511492>Oh no! My switch broke! Guess I better throw it away

>>731510365They're so cheap it's literally not worth the effort, just buy a spare or two and swap it out after several years of use, or early if you spill something on it I guess.
>>731511601See I thought this and then I looked at what it would actually take to swap a switch on my old non-hotswap keyboard where you would need to remove every single key to remove the top plate just to be able to physically get a switch out and learned a lesson that day.
any decent silent full size mechanical kb?
>>731515838That's not true, mate. If it's in a public area like a library, then it's a public computer, not a personal computer.
>>731517640No it isn't, that too is a personal computer. It stops being that when the actual compute is rented or streamed to your screen. Once again, the location of a PC doesn't make it any less of a PC.
>>731517640Public and Personal both begin with P, so they're both PCs.

>>731522903>soul.jpg>ai SLOPI hope you're sterile.
>>731522903I just use whatever feels better for the game i am currently play.I have a 360 DS4 and Dual-sense controller on top of a Keyboard and Mouse. For reference i play Ranged weapons in Monhun using KB+Mouse and melee weapons on controller.I play JRPGs on controller and all CRPGs on keyboard and mouse.
>>731509751>buy membrane keyboard>works until i have to remove a key with a stabalizer and then it snaps and have to replace the entire keyboard, like 15 years down the line>cheap abs plastic becomes shiny and the legends wear off in months-years>buy mechanical keyboard>i key starts chattering in a few months>d key stops registering all the time>keycap breaks for no reason>have to bust out my soldering iron to replace switches every few months
>>731509751I never looked into mechanical keyboards because years ago i read they're too loud. What a fucking lie. Mechanical keycaps have much pleasant sound than those shitty squaky membrane keyboards. And much better feeling. You can customize it how you want. It literally doesn't have any negatives. Membrane ketboards should be banned honestly
>>731509751Membrane keyboards were never high quality, just cheap.

>>731509751Membrane keyboards are great because they're cheap and quiet, good for use in an office where you're not going to be gaming or needing a keyboard that requires multiple keys to be pushed at the same time. Are they obsolete? Not at all.For gamers, you can play on a membrane keyboard, but a mechanical one is preferred.
>>731526360my sidewinder x4 I can push all the buttons
>>731526360I have a cheap chinese tecknet membrane keyboard and it supports 7 keys at once. It's not perfect but more than 3 is more than enough.Multiple keys at once hasn't been a problem in like 10-15 years.

>>731528365but you can just keep it in your peripheral and only need to move your mouse to navigate the information on the second monitor, it's just more convenient for the low cost of desk real estate
>>731509751i bough those 3 bucks logitech keyboards in bulk a few years ago, if it gives me problems i just throw it away and open another one
I have a razer mechanical keyboard I got on clearance a decade ago and it still works fine. Why do these membranefags larp so much?
>>731528726I have never had chatter in 10 years what kind of chinc crap are you people pretending to buy
>>731509751membrane keyboards are better than mechanical keyboards in QuakeWorld. It is easier to alternate strafes without any overlap. Might also be due to the lower polling rate.
I still use a membrane because mechanical is way too fucking loud and I can't be assed to buy and try out a billion different keyswitch variations. Variety isn't the spice of life when I can't test shit out before buying.
>>731529472theres 10 billion keyboard sound test videos out therehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PunzjtivFY
>>731509751I have a number of very good mechanical keyboards, but I still go back to my shitty membrane board. I haven't tried those expensive membrane-ish keyboards or whatever they are called.
>>731529565Videos are not equivalent to real life
magnetic > mechanical > membrane
>>731509751When did an entire hobby around mechanical keyboards begin?
>>731509751i much prefer mechanical, but membrane keyboards are more resistant to spills. you can also take the membrane out and clean the coffee/soda/cum off instead of having to go through the tedious process of cleaning every affected switch or buying new ones.
>>731515392Trannies don't have office jobs they just draw porn on newgrounds
>>731509861I've used a mechanical keyboard for over a decade, every membrane keyboard I've used has lasted less than a year. It's wasteful to use membrane because they don't last.
>>731509751No. Mechanical keyboards are still more expensive to produce than membrane keyboards so most keyboards being sold are still membrane keyboards.
>>731515435I wish they made these with a numpad. The only reason I'm not getting a hall effect keyboard is because there isn't a single brand making one with numpads

>>731534002well okay to be fair last time I did research was like years agothanks anon.
>>731517640Holy fuck you're stupid
>>731534002>>731534329>>731533818Cringe, the classic keyboard layout is so disgustingly space inefficient. I get the desire for a numpad if you play simulators however and that is why the 96% format exists:Cheaper: https://www.keychron.com/collections/96-layout-keyboards/products/keychron-k4-he-wireless-magnetic-switch-custom-keyboardMore Expensive: https://www.keychron.com/collections/96-layout-keyboards/products/keychron-q5-he-qmk-wireless-custom-keyboardNumpad on the left where it belongs: https://www.keychron.com/collections/96-layout-keyboards/products/keychron-q12-he-qmk-wireless-custom-keyboardPersonally I haven't played a simulator since ARMA III so nothing gaming wise uses a numpad for me anymore and I get more utility out of an intelligent macropad anyway. But my numpad is mechanical and I keep it magnetized to the bottom of my desk so when I need it I can grab it and put it on the LEFT side of the keyboard where god intended.
