Did mechanical keyboards make membrane keyboards obsolete?
>>
if you have anything other than a basic office keyboard like that, you're on your way to trooning out
same applies if you have more than one monitor

People have been using multiple monitors since the fucking 90s.
>>
nah mechanical keyboards existed before membrane ones. it's more other way. membrane made mechanical ones obsolete for a time. then someone had the idea of marketing mechanical ones as luxury items for 10 times the cost.
both do the job fine, but membrane is just cheaper and lasts longer without maintenance problems

They do not last longer.

Moreso Cherry's patent on the switch design expired, so mucking about with more switches than linear red, clicky blue and "tactile" lol brown became possible. Recall that Gateron and Outemu started life as switch manufacturers by bootlegging Cherry switches

See I thought this and then I looked at what it would actually take to swap a switch on my old non-hotswap keyboard where you would need to remove every single key to remove the top plate just to be able to physically get a switch out and learned a lesson that day.

any decent silent full size mechanical kb?

That's not true, mate. If it's in a public area like a library, then it's a public computer, not a personal computer.

It stops being that when the actual compute is rented or streamed to your screen.

I never looked into mechanical keyboards because years ago i read they're too loud. What a fucking lie. Mechanical keycaps have much pleasant sound than those shitty squaky membrane keyboards. Membrane keyboards are great because they're cheap and quiet, good for use in an office where you're not going to be gaming or needing a keyboard that requires multiple keys to be pushed at the same time. Are they obsolete? Not at all.
For gamers, you can play on a membrane keyboard, but a mechanical one is preferred.

but you can just keep it in your peripheral and only need to move your mouse to navigate the information on the second monitor, it's just more convenient for the low cost of desk real estate

>>
>>731509751
membrane keyboards are better than mechanical keyboards in QuakeWorld. It is easier to alternate strafes without any overlap. Might also be due to the lower polling rate.
>>
I still use a membrane because mechanical is way too fucking loud and I can't be assed to buy and try out a billion different keyswitch variations. Variety isn't the spice of life when I can't test shit out before buying.

>>731509751

>>
>>731509751
i much prefer mechanical, but membrane keyboards are more resistant to spills. you can also take the membrane out and clean the coffee/soda/cum off instead of having to go through the tedious process of cleaning every affected switch or buying new ones.

>>731515392
Trannies don't have office jobs they just draw porn on newgrounds
>>
>>731509861
I've used a mechanical keyboard for over a decade, every membrane keyboard I've used has lasted less than a year. It's wasteful to use membrane because they don't last.
>>
>>731509751
No. Mechanical keyboards are still more expensive to produce than membrane keyboards so most keyboards being sold are still membrane keyboards.
>>
>>731515435

Cringe, the classic keyboard layout is so disgustingly space inefficient. I get the desire for a numpad if you play simulators however and that is why the 96% format exists:
Cheaper: https://www.keychron.com/collections/96-layout-keyboards/products/keychron-k4-he-wireless-magnetic-switch-custom-keyboard
More Expensive: https://www.keychron.com/collections/96-layout-keyboards/products/keychron-q5-he-qmk-wireless-custom-keyboard
Numpad on the left where it belongs: https://www.keychron.com/collections/96-layout-keyboards/products/keychron-q12-he-qmk-wireless-custom-keyboard
Personally I haven't played a simulator since ARMA III so nothing gaming wise uses a numpad for me anymore and I get more utility out of an intelligent macropad anyway. But my numpad is mechanical and I keep it magnetized to the bottom of my desk so when I need it I can grab it and put it on the LEFT side of the keyboard where god intended.
>>
>>731520792
I find some measure of incongruence seeing someone rattle off that they have a wife and kids they're raising yet come to /v/ to espouse the usual spiel about trannies and fags.

It feels untrue...
