Soul Gems with a high capacity should continue to capture multiple smaller souls until their combined power fills it completely.

>>731575584They are in terms of recharging your equipment. A Grand Soul gem should be able to hold as many Petty Souls as it would take to recharge the same amount, however much that was. But it would still be "Filled with Petty Soul (X)." If you try to upgrade with it, a Petty Soul is the strongest soul you've got in there so that's what'll determine the effect.

>>731576631They're not being "combined," they're just in the same container. Petty Souls are small and pitiful, so you can fit a lot of them into a bigger gem. But when you have space and try to fit a bigger soul in there, it can force the smaller ones out so it can fill the gem completely. The gem never goes over capacity for recharging, and mechanically the largest soul in there is still the one determining the enchantment strength.
