What would a Smash 6 even do? Ultimate was already just reheated Smash 4 with minor adjustments and new and returning characters. I struggle even considering it "Smash 5" with how similar everything is. Sakurai clearly is content with how the game plays, what moves the characters have, and what content is available.Would he even want to do a massive mechanic rework? Would it just be Ultimate+ with more minor changes and even more fucking characters? It just seems so pointless if it's just Sora yet again developing it. A Switch 2 port with some character packs would be essentially the same as a sequel with how homogenized the series has become.

Eventually the older devs moved on to other things but many of the ideas they felt were Chesterton's fences remained on the team., like locking down the game's files or going for a more "professional" appearance. Several years ago someone figured out how to mod in new characters and it led to a renaissance of activity around the game. Some of these modders became devs and brought a different culture than the culture of American rosterfags the game was built around. Autistic slapfights abounded and all the competent people left

That said, first, I'd would say relevancy in Japan matters more since if the Japanese don't care for it, they wont even consider adding it.
