What is your dream game? And why have you not been working on it?
>>
>>731825508
I'm 71 pages deep into my dream comic. I'll storytime on /v/ when I'm done
>>
>>731825508
Because enemy sprites and player sprites have different effects they can do in rpg maker. I just want the player sprite to turn white and dissappear like enemy sprites do but it's hard. Considering perhaps just replacing the player sprite with an enemy sprite when they die and making it disappear then. Or fuck it the player corpse sprite can just lie there the rest of the battle even if I don't plan on having raises.
>>
>>731825508
a halo firefight horde mode clone, that's it, i can't program
>>
>>731825508
I’m working on a prototype of a prototype of a prototype of it, that’s why!
>>
>>731825508
A series of games spanning and mixing genres that I like. Not being worked on because I have to spend the next n-years learning how to code.
>>
>>731825508
I have no art skills to draw attractive characters
>>
>>731825508
>What is your dream game?
The first 3 hours of Kingdom Hearts 2, but on a much bigger scale.
>And why have you not been working on it?
Because making your dream game as your first game is a dumb idea.
>>
>>731825508
>What is your dream game?
KH2like with platforming and exploration but with tacticool shit and dinosaurs
>And why have you not been working on it?
I'm lazy and low energy
>>731826643
Based, I don't get why there aren't anymore KH-likes for how popular the formula is. Maybe it just because indie games and 3d modeling is too difficult for most

I have a few dream games
>digimon world clone
>digimon world 2003 clone
>spyro the dragon clone
I'm not working on a dream game though, right now I'm making a really basic turn based jrpg (no xp points or equipment) where you play as a group of bugs exploring the world trying to find bug queens to have sex with
>>
The only real cool "dream" game I had when I was a kid was basically a MMO where you could travel the country doing whatever you want.
In my mind I picturing a biker driving down a long desert highway, stopping at a bar and getting a drink, then fighting a group before hopping back on his motorcycle and heading off to the next destination.
GTA online is basically what my dream game was but way better.
>>
>>731825508
>What is your dream game?
I dunno, a Macross game that's Ace Combat and Armored Core combined

>And why have you not been working on it?
Why? Making a game that I want to play will mean I'll have played it multiple times over by the time it's finished
>>
>>731826850
Yeah, KH has a great combat foundation. Also the Roxas prologue portion of KH2 is the best written part of the series in my opinion, and I've never been more upset to see it end.
>>
a comfy farm/house/nature sim, no stardew valley wanabe, no harvest moon, just a comfy game with cool/cute characters, thing is i have all the tools and experience for artwork and assets but have no idea what software should I use to implement/program shit.
>>
I always thought these people making their very first game, and it's supposed to be their "dream" game, were either completely clueless about the amount of work it takes to make a game, unimaginative, or really conceited, to think they can make their dream game on the first try, even assuming they have the skills to program and create all the art (which very often, they don't).
>>
>>731825508
Nobody's dream game looks like that. If that's what your dream game looks like, wake up and find some new inspiration.
>>
I released a demo and the anonymous responses were poor and the people who used to chat in my discord server went completely silent. It must have been complete shit. I thought it was going pretty well, too, what a shame. I'm honestly pretty bummed because the response to videos of it was pretty positive.
>>

People don't actually know what they really want. That includes both devs and their audiences.

I'm not working on my dream game because that game is bigger than anything I can feasibly create alone. I am working on a small 3D platformer / turn-based RPG though.
>>
>>731828735
Maybe once I rework it to not suck
>>
>>731828739
>3D platformer / turn-based RPG
That sounds like ass
>>
>>731825508
I have no ideas and I can't code.
>>
>>731828808
It's based off of a Sonic Fangame idea I had where the chao garden had a "Chao In Space" mode that was an RPG that retold the story of Phantasy Star Online but with Chao.
My game doesn't do that but the core idea is the same, do platforming, collect resources to boost your critter, do RPG with critter to unlock new movement options for the platformer to reach new stages in the hub world.

Come on, if you want honest opinions on the gameplay you gotta let people see it.
If you redesign it all on your own, then how can you be sure you're not gonna make it suck more?
>>
>>731826643
>The first 3 hours of Kingdom Hearts 2
Literally everyone's least favorite part and one of the biggest examples people used to point to when talking about how JRPGs take too long with their prologues before you get to actually play the game.
>>
>>731829817
not that anon but that was only a problem because people wanted to hurry up and play as Sora and Goofy and Donald
In an original game no one would notice
>>

My dream game is remaking something that made me feel the same way the Elder Scrolls games made me feel when I was a kid
>>
>>731825508
An RPG game that incorporates other RPG battle mechanics depending on who you have in the party. One party char having Mother rolling HP meter system while also having Chrono Cross' Hi/Med/Low hits and magic system and having a Trail of Mana/Tales of Symohonia style of movement where you can move around in battle and switch inbetween each char as you're fighting.
>>
>>731827012
It's too bad Uli just started another game so Baricanna is going on the same shelf as Platform Masters.
>>
>>731829817
It's one of the best written parts of the series and one of the only points in the series where the characters sound like they can have natural sounding conversations. Plus, nothing else in the series comes anywhere close to matching the atmosphere.

Curious what your idea is. Will it be like KH but with a lot more slice of life elements and taking place around a single town? Some underlying mystery carrying the plot?
>>
>>731825508
>What is your dream game?
Essentially an old FF game in loose structure but with an adaptation of Live-A-Live's grid-based battle system.
>And why have you not been working on it?
Pure fucking laziness. RPG Maker is right there, I have no excuse.

Me not knowing that Chain of Memories existed prior to me playing KH2 for the first time back in 2006, I had no context for what happened to Sora or Roxas' existence. So I was expecting a semi-repeat of KH1's plot only grander because the series was a proven success by this point. Weird shit happens to Roxas, gets separated from his friends, goes in several worlds spanning adventure to find them, Disney shenanigans, etc, and dealing with the new enemy type (Nobodies). As gut wrenching as the end of the prologue was (top 5 moments in the franchise for me), I was a little disappointed that Roxas's story (mostly) ended there, and HPO's involvement in the plot becomes little more than a footnote until the TT revisit where we see them for like 5 more minutes. Especially since the Twilight Town gang felt more genuine as friends compared to Sora's trio, at least to me.
So my idea would have a similar premise to the KH2 prologue, while incorporating what I expected out of it. Start out as a casual slice of life with a ludonarrative introduction to the game's mechanics, weird shit starts happening to the protagonist, leading to a lot of mysteries where the only answers can be solved by traveling to distant lands/worlds. Maybe as a solo adventure looking for their lost friends, or as a group adventure. Obviously without the Disney stuff because Disney would neck me for even considering it, so I'd have to fill that void with something either really awesome or really autistic. Maybe both.

I've toyed with the idea for some time, but I obviously want to get some dev experience before making an attempt.

In Imperium there's this part where the mc's boss rips up his fake credentials and tells him that if he's ever in a situation where he needs to flash them, his cover is already as good as blown. That's you right now, posting that shit is proof that you're either faking and mad that you got caught or you're just vapid and need people to believe you're successful because that's all you have.

An open world first/third person RPG where the different regions are managed by a strategy engine. Each region has different resources and needs which control what the region leader(s) choose to do.
The standard campaign would have a set timeline of things that happen, but you can choose to play in sandbox mode where the AI control events and faction relations.
The player could influence the world by trading, gathering resources, destroying resources, or killing central characters.

>And why have you not been working on it?
I'm a dumb-dumb
>>
>dream game
RPG where perception is a stat, but instead of modern bullshit like highlighting things and enemies, it controls your field of view, the amount of detail you can view weapon stats, how detailed your quest log is, and if your character actually hears people speak versus just gets a general idea of what they're saying. There's benefits and drawbacks to having either extreme, like just naturally having binoculars to zoom in but taking more damage from psychic/morale attacks at high perception, to literally being so dense and blind that you can ignore attacks that you don't see coming.
>why not make it
I like writing and making animations rather than textures and code and I just realize that I do not enjoy my own freedom enough to use it properly

working on optimizing my life and becoming the best version of myself so i can give my robot girls the proper treatment they deserve.
i am the biggest bottleneck towards anything i want to accomplish so i'm trying to remedy that by alternating between debugging myself and debugging my game.
solo gamedev is actually parenting six different creative hobbies (and in my case parenting a bunch of robot girls too) and i must tend to my hobbies equally lest they atrophy and the girls get restless.
