I've been playing Doll's Nest with UEVR. It has been nice and the mega structure theme fits well with VR's advantages. Just setting it to use a regular controller and aim where I am looking works better than expected with the games targeting mechanics, but has anyone by chance actually setup a profile that isn't the bare minimum? It seems like it would be really hard to bind all of the controls even if I could manage to get aiming attached to my hand without also rotating myself. The feeling of getting it really close to being perfect, but not there, that happens so often with UEVR really makes it disappointing that games don't get official VR ports.

If you want to max out q2 (2700^2 per eye ("native" res) at 120hz), you need at least 4090.
frame might be easier for games with foveated rendering, for games with no support you would need to go (3100^2 per eye at 144hz) and that's 5090 territory

I went all out for my VR setup this past month.
Got a Galaxy XR with controllers and a few 3rd party comfort mods. And before anyone asks why I would buy an XR standalone headset for VR:
Face tracking, eye tracking, micro OLED, foveated rendering, 4K res per eye.
I have to move my laptop downstairs to connect the Ethernet on my laptop to my router but just bought a Puppis S1 on Amazon to hopefully do away with that issue.
So far just messing around in private rooms in VR chat picking avatars and testing tracking and stuff. Got a whole library of VR games I plan to play though

I recommend this to everyone who needs more VR games to play:
Walkabout minigolf.
I put this at the top of my VR list above even half life alyx.
Great physics, fun multiplayer, and constant new courses through regular DLC updates
>>
I wanna upgrade from quest 3 to something better for sim racing but at the same time I don't
>>
>>731970592
90hz is enough for me.
And yeah the comfort is absolutely dogshit, but just a few reversible mods and it’s infinitely better than the stock comfort. All I did was buy a new forehead cushion, and a top strap. The difference is night and day

You kidding? He was the only one realistically funding it.

Valve just makes headsets and wanders off having done nothing since Alyx. Unless Gabe pumps out brand new IPs or more Alyx-tier games to attract people to the market I don't really see that accomplishing anything outside of allowing for a better space for VR games to work from due to it consolidating ARM.
Sony gave up from the start with the PSVR2 and hasn't supported it at all since. That thing is and has been dead in the water all thanks to not having BC. It truly is them shooting themselves in the foot when they were by far the best market for it in terms of realistically acquiring new users.
Microsoft is completely done with the HoloLens thing.

That's basically everyone.

Getting affordable headsets into the arms of anyone who realistically wanted one without having to resort to Google Cardboard?
Actually having a VR platform that doesn't require a proper gaming computer or a PS4/PS5?
Exclusives to pull people into said market including big names like Arkham Shadow?
All the big name sin the VR space releasing games on their platform?
>complete suffocation of natural competition and complete destruction of vr game industry
In what way? The Oculus marketplace was the main hub for a lot of the popular content on VR. It was somewhere akin to the PS4 when the PSVR1 came out where developers could actually target a specific headset they know most people would have and get casuals regularly seeing their content. Now that it's more or less done they're basically left with Steam as the only real marketplace for this.

The Quest 2 completely ruined the image of VR for the majority of millions who bought it. Some shitty blurry mobile games with an unbalanced weight and shitty foam cover that irritates the skin is why no one is interested in VR anymore.
>>
>>731972382
That is exactly what the PSVR1 was and people loved it. You're clearly making a mountain out of a molehill here because the face it had millions of people even trying it in the first place is an example of a success. Now it's back to even more of a niche market because the only major player (Valve) is primarily targeting enthusiasts and Sony is on life support not funding anything. Now we go back to Google Cardboard-tier VR for the average consumer.

Actually I wonder if they could one day make a headset that's a unified display like that. The left and right side would be like today's headsets, but the center instead of having a gap of nothing, there could be some kind of lenticular magic display like a 3DS so you get the full binocular overlap. I don't think lenticular shit works through lenses though.

Valve doesn't deserve any credit for ghosting VR like they did. But Zuck did a cut throat subsidized hardware loss leader strategy for years and years, it made it impossible to bring in meaningful competition without getting in a suicidal price war so everything else was perceived as overpriced in comparison. Zuck made quest the only game in town, then failed with a long string of full retard mistakes. Competing approaches were never given a chance or were short lived before quest dominance, like PCVR.

Zuck's decision making really matters here and anyone who socializes on the internet and can feel a pulse can tell, whether they browse VR communities or not. Besides simulator sickness, the biggest barrier to VR adoption is zuck. So many people, and not just the fringes of 4chan, even normie social media like reddit and twitter, won't buy a zuck headset because it's a zuck headset. People still ask if there is a way to get around using your facebook account when that was reversed years ago. Or always online and meta's servers going down bricking the headset. Or they don't know avoidable zuckshit is if you just use steamlink or virtual desktop and there's no need to install zuck software on your PC for quest link. They don't want to buy something run by a soulless lizard that spies on you and doesn't give a fuck about games.

But back then it was $300 quest 2, $600 G2, or $1000 index. Then PSVR2 hits for $550 and despite its problems that are sony's fault, being a more expensive wired headset was a circumstance created by zuck.

Also remember if zuck didn't buy oculus all that talent would be at oculus and working with valve. Zuck being a retard was not worth the infinite funding and those guys would've done great without him. He also could've distanced oculus from facebook and himself but again we're dealing with a megalomaniacal retard here.

>Actually having a VR platform that doesn't require a proper gaming computer or a PS4/PS5?

This is false though because the experience wasn't compelling enough for customer retention and software attachment. Turns out you can't run worthwhile VR on phone chips. Not even being a snob, normies weren't impressed by the graphics. Zuck should've gone a little more expensive and made a compute puck that plugged into a wall for full wattage and thermal headroom.

>Exclusives to pull people into said market including big names like Arkham Shadow?

Which sold like shit btw despite the good reviews. Indie shit from nowhere like beatsaber and gorilla tag absolutely demolished everything else. VR isn't IP driven at all. You aren't even half right. They cancelled GTA san andreas out of nowhere after announcing it. They closed down the studio that made arkham shadow, the studio that ported RE4, they cancelled the upcoming harry potter game. Meta doesn't give a shit about big IP at all anymore.

>Getting affordable headsets into the arms of anyone who realistically wanted one without having to resort to Google Cardboard?
And those headsets have been loaded with bullshit design choices which have normalized bad design across the entire market.
>Actually having a VR platform that doesn't require a proper gaming computer or a PS4/PS5?
Phoneslop and Androidslop is bad and inadequate.
>Exclusives to pull people into said market including big names like Arkham Shadow?
Exclusives are shit and only hurt the VR space.
>All the big name sin the VR space releasing games on their platform?
Their platform is objectively terrible for VR.
>>
>>731972454
I don't think you understand how weak the quest is

Steam frame is like 30% faster than the quest 3, but it's still weaker than steam deck that is intended to run games at 800p. And a quest 2 is weaker than the quest 3. A quest 2 is 3664x1920 and to not be blurry you have to supersample above that like 150%, which basically none of the games can do. They are usually subsampled and run under the resolution of the headset. Quest 2 is something like 10-20W and PS4 around 170. There is no comparison between the two. Quest 2 is potato quality and PSVR1 has DOAX titties.

Standalone really was a fool's errand in 2020 and it probably still is. Valve is unsure if the frame can run alyx even with eye tracked foveated rendering.
>>
I'm still using a Rift S but I've thought a few times of getting something newer. What is fairly inexpensive but still good and doesn't have complete bullshit like the Meta/Fagbook integrations?
My only real idea for a set was the Reverb G2 since it's still miles ahead of the Rift S
>>
>>731975926
Standalone is fine as a bonus, because you need some compute for dealing with wireless.
The main problem with standalone is the insistence on having an appstore and not just using it for PCVR.
Even the Steam Frame likely presupposes the use of the cube for any actual gaming.
