>decide to try out one of those AI textadventure games
>Pick a postapocalyptic setting that turns out to be a zombie setting
>Most of the adventure is just me, and a guy i managed to pick up from a bunker i started with.
>Find more about what the fuck is going on, and turns out its basically Left 4 Dead if every infected was a witch that moved like a normal infected, except more blind (fuckers can still use echolocation and smell, so not much of a disadvantage).
>After several days of traveling around, picking up useful stuff, try to figure out whats going on, and not dying, we finally find someone else alive.
>I'm actually happy, started to think that it would only be me and bunker buddy.
>The guy we found looked like got his leg bent backwards, starving and dehydrating but was still alive, was a soldier that got left for dead by his own squad.
>Give him some food, treat him, and talk to him as i go asking him what the hell happened to him.
>As we go talking, he starts to give way to many hints that he is infected, but its like he doesn't know or hasn't come to terms about it, and he will turn sooner or later.
>Decide to even check him for signs of infection. He is infected.
>Realise that actually properly formulating how to tell somebody they are gonna die without them freaking out and accept it is fucking hard, especially since the guy grew on me for a bit, and i actually have to describe what i want to say instead of having it already premaded by somebody else.
>Tell him that there is nothing i can really do for him, except giving him a cigarette.
>Bot proceed to give me a fucking haunting description about how the guy realises his life is over, we light his cigarette, starts crying and smoking.
>We even share a last meal with him.
>The moment he is the most distracted in our conversation, i shoot him so he doesn't get scared when i kill him.

Of the Devil's EP1 twist that the reason the culprit murdered Shakur in the first place was because By smuggling the sentient AIs Shakur made into consumerist droids, he has effectively made the culprit's entire legacy become a slave trade.

Honestly, as a game and a story it overall wasn't really amazing. It's nowhere near as good as Danganronpa or Zero Escape. But the ending really did a lot to redeem it. It's not amazing, but it does have heart. Enough to make it worth playing.

Uta is fantastic all around across all 3 games, but yeah, nothing will top the final battle of the first.

Then 120 hours later you get that epilogue in Mask of Truth, and it's just so fucking good.

It's disappointing the 4th and now 5th (and final) games are prequels / sidequels. They're excellent at writing emotional, meaningful climaxes to people's stories, I want the last game to be a culmination and victory lap of the entire series.

I've literally never heard of this before tonight but you've piqued my interest. Can you tell me a little about it? A little about the premise of the story, anything that sets it apart from other JRPGs? No serious spoilers please, obviously.

I looked it up on TV Tropes, but it's pretty useless, basically only saying you play as an injured man with no memories who recovers in a peaceful village, but soon the man finds himself in the center of one conflict after another. Oh, and said everyone in the story has some animal characteristics.
>>
>>731972070

>>731973332
It's a VN/SRPG hybrid but heavy on the VN parts, do not play if you don't want to read, I'd say around a 70/30 split between VN and gameplay. It's a slow paced story, so expect lots of SoL (quality SoL I might add, there's a lot of worldbuilding and chilling with your bros and introspective moments, it's not just ecchi harem/comedy moments) in between major story developments.
>only saying you play as an injured man with no memories who recovers in a peaceful village, but soon the man finds himself in the center of one conflict after another.
I mean yeah basically. WIthout giving away big spoilers the first game's general premise is about kingdom building where you go from some helping out random shitter village to expanding into an empire.

It's a fantasy epic in video game form, and instead of pulling from western and European myths, it instead is inspired by native Japanese ones.

All three are SRPGs vaguely in the style of FFT, but with much more of a JRPG sense of progression. There's no build autism or job grinding, instead you get better through equipment, new skills, and levels.

The story is tremendous, as is the lore and backstory. It's best experienced blind. There's political struggles and nation building like you'd expect in other SRPGs, but there's always a strong undercurrent of mystery and piecing together the 'real' story that's going on behind the more immediate conflicts. Each game has multiple twists, and some of the best endings in gaming. I can't say enough good things about the twists, and it's very difficult not to give you a flavor of some of them, but again, blind is best.

By far the thing I'd gush about is the cast. There's not a single dud. The girls are cute, sexy, endearing, or fun. The guys are insanely good bros. They all interact as much with each other as the MC, and each gets their own chance to shine. The MCs are both godlike in personality, voice acting, and in their personal arc.

To set expectations, the non-battle stuff - the story, dialogue, etc. - is done via visual novel. No choices, just reading. I actually got into it *because* it was a fantasy VN, which are unusually rare and I'm a SFF book reader.

Unlike many VNs it's not just bog-standard anime tropes and extremely thin character writing. It stands toe to toe with actual SFF authors. But if you really hate VNs this is a dealbreaker for sure.

Sorry to be a newfag retard, but what's an SRPG?

I'm already pretty certain I'm going to buy it tonight just from 731973861's clear passion for it, but just for a little more info, Persona 5 Royal is my favorite game of all time, which is obviously pretty slow paced. I really love Danganronpa and Zero Escape (I'm the Anon who posted Aiba up above) and the House of Fata Morgana is one of the most incredible, powerful stories I've ever experienced. (even with the bullshit twist.) Other than that, I don't have too much experience with VNs or JRPGs. Does this sound like something that would fit my tastes?
>>
>>731974237
Strategy RPG. Tactics Ogre, Final Fantasy Tactics, Fire Emblem, Disgaea, those types. You move on a grid, attack enemies in range, end your turn, repeat. Despite the "S" they're better described as tactical, as victory depends on positioning, when and how you use skills, that sort of thing.

You say you don't have experience with VNs but Fata Morgana is a biggie, and Danganronpa and Zero Escape are both indicative of the overall 'loop' of Uta, which is VN -> gameplay -> VN. If you enjoyed that then you're primed for what Uta has to offer.

The first game is the weakest but is still extremely good and will give you a taste of everything. It's probably going to go on sale soon with the last game coming out later this year, so I'd wait and then pick it up. Play until (very light spoilers) a kingdom is formed with a very particular name and if you hate it, drop it. Otherwise, get ready for ultra kino.

>Sorry to be a newfag retard, but what's an SRPG?
Typically people are talking about top down, grid based turn based combat controlling multiple units. The gameplay isn't very hard and is definitely meant to be more of a side attraction to break up the reading
>Does this sound like something that would fit my tastes?
No idea, but if you're fine with reading a lot and taking the time to get invested in the world and characters I'd lean towards yes. The first game should give a good idea on how you feel about the structure and writing, imho the sequels were better but you cannot skip the original

Awesome Anons, Thanks. I can tell I'm 95% of the way done with the second Somnium Files game, but as soon as I finish that up, I'm going to start Utawarerumono. I would buy it right now, but it's on sale for 70% off that ends next Thursday, and if it's anywhere near as good as you're describing, I'd rather wait just a few days and give the developers an extra $40. I've played and enjoyed Persona 5 Tactica, so I do have a little experience with SRPGs.

>>731974894
I can tell you have a lot of passion for this story and if you've read Fata Morgana it sounds like you have both really good taste and a talent for finding out-of-the-way stuff. I have to ask, are there any other stories that really touched you and you think you might like to talk about or recommend to me? There are so many visual novels out there, and I have absolutely no idea how to find the good ones. (I decided to buy and play Fata Morgana as my very first VN other than Danganronpa and Zero Escape because I read a Youtube comment talking about with incredibly praise and passion.) I'm very slowly working my way through Umineko, and I bought CLANNED and tried my hardest to get into it for three evenings, but just couldn't. It could be anything that you think is really incredibly and deserves more attention. VNs, games, anime, manga, regular novels, whatever.

In the dumbest way, the 1.0 of Metroid Prime 1.
Replayed it recently and got my dick hard about all the crazy shit you could do in it with just simple exploits (just scan dashes and/or ghetto jumps, no out of bounds shenanigans). All of that made the game's world feel "real" and I think is what made me really like games when I was kid.
The feels part is mourning all that shit because Nintendo wants to be gay and remove the fun stuff in the more modern iterations of Metroid Prime like the players choice or remastered. Like artificially having a door lock because you don't have grapple or removing collision from objects you should reasonably be able to stand on just takes you out of it.

What made it worse for me is that I tried to hold back but the tears just keep flowing out and it was genuinely hard to breathe I thought I suffocated myself.
I know I sounded like a faggot, my parents hated me since birth so now I cry at a video game.

This is an obscure one but theres a series of modules for neverwinter nights called the prophet series.
The story is really good and emotional and is all about fate and all that shit. You're a prophet who sees visions of the future and set off on a quest to prevent these things from happening. you end up being the cause of these terrible things happening inadvertently and things get worse and worse until you fuck up so hard you end the world there's more too it than that and I'm explaining it badly but its a really emotional and thought provoking journey. Was one of the best rpg experiences I've had and its fanmade.

I also fucking called that the monado being unable to hit the faced mechon was because they were integrating humans somehow.

It's a tale of two brothers trying to overcome grief by looking to the strongest person they know, their father, and fighting over his legacy. Most men can relate or at least sympathize with that and there's nothing cringe about getting emotional about it.

Deltarune, 5 years ago. The part where Kris and Susie were sliding down and the city in the background slowly revealed itself and the music kicked it. I felt some genuine excitement for a couple of seconds there. Best I can describe it as is "childlike wonder". Despite how short the feeling was it was so out of the ordinary and strong that I still have a mental note of it.

>HOT TAKE
I didn't care about Jackie.
You literally see him for 3 missions and barely get any screen time with him. This is too short to form a meaningful bond and connection to a character. Same with the romances, they are so rushed like it is a speed run.

I held it together for my first Switch playthrough because that would be my 3rd play through after the Wii and 3DS versions.

But man, after the credits rolled and they hit you with that brand new title screen of the party just sitting on the dock in the new world just enjoying their lives...

Breath of the Wild
The expanse of land, the nature, birds chirping, gentle music as the wind blows, the majesty of the dragons, the glint on grass blades after rain.
Beautiful and immersive game. Even after beating it, it was so much fun to just quietly wander the various biomes, notice quirks to landscape you hadn't examined before, take the occasional picture.
A lovely experience.

Funnily enough Omori. Didn't cry because I wasn't a sissy faggot but it got close. But this was years ago.
Any faggot claiming excrement 33 is a shill engaging in lying and manufactured consent. Me and my friend played it all the way through but I didn't feel shit. Both of us thought it was a waste of fucking time.

I can't remember if I found Gabbro before or after my suicide cycle. It might have been before since discovering there was someone else trapped in their own series of looping timelines because of the Noami masks even before you the player got trapped and they never figured it out doesn't sound very encouraging.
Sticking around for the end with Chert was also an experience, as far as the other members of the Outer Wilds pilots go.

Lost Records: Bloom & Rage. 99% of the game is cringe tumblr faggotry but the cancer part with Kat did hit me right in the feels. Unfortunately, the game is pure cringe...and not even fun cringe in the same way LiS1 was...just pure faggot cringe.
>>
>>731982961
I agree. My theory is that a lot of people who felt impacted by Jackie were really into the game pre-release and thus it felt they had spent longer with him

If you engage with him purely on what's in the game he's really a nonfactor. To then make the entire arc of V carrying on Jackie's legacy was such a mistake, because you can barely grasp what that means outside that one bar scene.

It's the best proof yet that the game was heavily changed in favor of much more Keanu screentime. The prologue was likely much longer and Jackie was with you for many more missions

>Harry, I wanted to write you a letter, so you can read it when you wake up. Maybe it will make you happy. Every morning when I step out and you're asleep behind me, I find a little piece of sadness in me. I carry it in my chest down Voyager Road... Every step I take, it grows. By the time I reach the fuel station it has filled me entirely. I step on the light rail and look back, sparks fall from the bow collector. I know it will be like this until late afternoon, when I get off the 42 -- and walk back to you... You, you... Every step I take will get lighter. It almost makes me run! Sometimes I do. I can't believe I met you. I can't believe the happiness I feel with you. You have a vast, vast soul and I will always, always, always come back to it. Kisses, kisses, kisses

I would have lost my fucking mind too if this woman left me. I legit just now shed a tear rereading it.
