>>731996906Wonder how much they're regretting it now.
Is the Sony line growing upward?
>Destiny 2 expansions keep selling less and less, player numbers are currently worse than they were years ago when Bungie straight up said they were weeks from shutting down >98% chance Marathon flops hard It's over.
>>731996906>Sony buys them for "their expertise in live service games">all they do is tell them to close all the gaas projects that would have had a fighting chance like tlou fractions and spiderverse
>>731996906As someone who loved the first year or 2 of the original Destiny, I hope Bungie goes bankrupt and never makes any games ever again.
He fucking won.
Never forget than Disney paid 4 billion for star wars.Bungie is worth 7/8th of star wars
LOL
Sony are so fucking stupid. Has been this way since they allowed more DEI and moved their HQs out of Japan.
Why are they focusing on online games when most snoy fans like big AAA single player games?
>>731997978>blue checkmarkhate these people
>>731996906Infinite money disease.
>>731996964Probably around 3.6 billion.
>>731997159>xe still thinks marathon will flopmarathon has been pre-engoodened, chud
>>731997886That's a real head scratcher, isn't it? Why didn't Sony just buy Star Wars? What the fuck?
>>731996906How a single shit studio was worth 3.6 billion while fucking Activision was just 4?
>>731998984One of the most successful scams in history.
>>731998984Destiny is probably the biggest reason. That game made a boatload of money despite being extremely mediocre and sony wanted the secret sauce. The problem is that there was no secret sauce, just retarded fanboys and luck.
>>731998984sony unironically thought they could get bungie to make them a new destiny every 6 monthschasing GAAS bux turned every company completely retarded
>>731996906Bungie kept D2 alive when they should have been on D3. They have 900 devs employed with 250 on Marathon so i'd imagine a good chunk are already on D3.
>>731996906who cares Xbox still lost
>>731996906>be sony>want live service game so badly it's driving you insane>see bungie has one of the longest live service games>say fuck it; massively overpay to buy bungie and destiny 2 because you want live service slop that badly>within a year announce you are dropping support of destiny 2>no plans for destiny 3>entire $3.6 billion purchase now relies on marathon, some niche genre of shooter based on an ip only 6 people in the world remember>everything about marathon turns out to be a fucking trainwreck>crawl back to making half assed destiny 2 expansions>destiny 2 is now on its death bedNothing about the purchase or what has happened since they bought it makes sense. Why would you buy a studio and then let that studio throw away the singular thing you bought them for? They paid $3.6 billion and still don't have the live service game they wanted.
>>731997978>the game looks really promising nowMust be exhausting to have to constantly lie to yourself like that.
>>731999131The secret sauce was Bungie's rep from Halo that they spent like a drunken sailor to have Destiny succeed.
>>731997978Extraction shooter is the shittiest genre of shooter ever conceived and besides that, Arc Raiders already stole your thunder. Marathon is now in the same position as Battleborn found themselves in. They got beat to market.
I don't think game devs have actually noticed thisYou only get one chance with players nowEven if its a beta/alpha. If it sucks then its deadIf i play a demo/beta and it sucks ass i won't come back for full releaseYou fixed it? Cool maybe i'll buy it on sale in a decade
Destiny makes hundreds of millions a year
>>731999739>Extraction shooter is the shittiest genre of shooter ever conceivedWrongPeople love it. Arc raiders player count amd retention proves that
>>731999929I don't care how many people eat shit.
>>731999887Every expansion flops
......
>>731998203because AAA single player games are only sold once per player. online demands you 40 dollars for a single skin and when you have streamers on the case, you can get people to pay that every months
>>731997504I still don't understand why they removed the campaign from 2.
>>731996906How much did Microsoft pay for it back in the day?
>>732000437I'd say I was excited too if Bungie sent me a fat check.
>>731999518don't forget they also purchased "institutional knowledge" and had bungie advise the 12 other live service games in development, nearly all of which have been cancelled (one of them was concord lmao)
>>732000491Their engine couldn't handle the size of the game and instead of doing the reasonable and intelligent thing of making a Destiny 3 on a new engine that could handle infinite expansions Luke Smith and the other retards on Bungie just decided to delete 80% of the game.
>>731996906>3.6 billion>for one dead gameImagine how many small single player focused studios they could have supported with that. Sony could have come out with a entire lineup of AA games, instead they got destiny 2, a dead game, and concord 3.
>>731999589I wonder how long it takes for being paid to lie to eat your soul.
>Be Bungie>Scam Sony for 3.6 billion>They ask you to look at their other GaaS games in development>TLOU2 Factions looks amazing>Days Gone GaaS is kino>Spider-Man GaaS has some of the most fun and fluid movement you've ever seen>Seethe and shitpost and tell Sony to cancel all of them>The mad lads actually do it
Never pay more than $20m for a video game development studio
>>732000889Why pay any money at all? Just make your own brand new IPs, it's literally free to do lmao. Just get a pen and paper and start writing a story and characters lmaoooo
>>731999887It has lost 95% of its playerbase since june last year. I dont think its making hundreds of millions anymore. Actually lets say it makes 200 million a year(doubtful). It would take 18 years, twice as long as the franchise has been alive, to make up for the 3.6 billion spent.
>>732000889Especially one that's obviously in the twilight phase of their lifespans because it's obvious that the guys in-charge are either going to cash out or are tapped out of ideas.
>>731996906Nintendo bought Monolith Software for around $650,000.Since then they have put out 4 Xenoblade games and helped greatly with the engine tech for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.Tell me this wasn't the smartest purchase in all of gaming. Sony's was probably Insomniac. Xbox is easily inXile.Bungie post Halo has yet to release a good game.
LMAO
>>731996906i want the timeline where they didnt buy these useless faggots and released tlou2 factions anyway. i liked the first factions on ps3 enough to get the plat and continue playing
All par for the course in a world where entertainment lost its mind with ronatimes projections and the quest for infinite money that wasn’t going to be there because your sister who bought a switch and played Animal Crossing wasn’t looking to spend more money for years and years when there’s other shit to do. With Bungie they basically ass pulled Lightfall to pad out the series, attempt to rope in people not in the series, stole 5th subclass from Witch Queen to force it in LF, and then when Lightfall was a dud people showed their exhaustion with TFS and the pop rapidly declined there. Low preorder rumors were true when they delayed TFS by a long ways because what was going to ship with the original version wasn’t that good according to credible leaks and content creators who said some things. Bungie in the hole couldn’t be more illustrated with how they basically don’t even add much to new DLCs to Destiny and it’s all cash shop forward
>>731996906buyouts like this is why ubisoft is worth 50 cents a share right now... cause the season is over and everyone realizes video game IP is worth shit
>>731996964Was probably worth it to them just to finish off X Box as a legitimate competitor. Without Halo they were doomed.
>>731996906I wonder how much money Sony wasted on their gaas initiative.
>>731996906Aren't all the devs women and troons?
>>732001305That and Ubisoft is a shitshow right now.
>>731996906Possibly the worst deal in the history of video games. Sony got outright swindled.
>>731999518I call this time period the "great japanese awakening to USA being garbage niggers" it's kinda long, i know, needs shortening somehow
>>731999589then the pajeet immediately projects that you are the shill being paid - fucking subhuman IQ levels
>>731996906
>>732001385Yes
>>732000796>paid to lie to eat your soullearn english better, pajeet
>>731996906They can salvage this by releasing a complete Destiny Collection on Playstation, Xbox, and PC.Destinty 1 and it's DLC + Destiny 2 and it's DLC, including ALL the content they deleted over the years, both games running on the same engine, and for the reasonable price of $70.People will play Destiny again, and Bungie will recover some of it's completely tarnished reputation.
>>731998984I think part of that amount was to keep the "talent" after the buyout.
Bungie is another Ship of Theseus anyways. Pretty much all the people who made founded Bungie and made Halo are long gone. Let them die.
>>732001658They can't. They actually deleted everything before Beyond Light. They had to settle in a lawsuit about the Red War because they couldn't prove their side of argument because the Red War files are gone. The level of incompetence permeating that business is unreal.
>>732001715no, the way they do that is bonuses at the end of 2-3 year contracts they make the top talent sign at the time of the acquisition
>>731998418Elon made it so it's once again a symbol of the fact that indeed, your account is verified. And they have to pay for it too. It's been years since it meant "vested power given to you for conforming to the message" faggot. They tried replacing it by putting their pronouns in the bio but it didn't work out as planned, then they all moved to bluesky.
>>731996964They booted Ryan for it (and the liveservice bullshit in general) so immensely. Imagine what they could have acquired with that money instead
>>731999929When you actually look into the mechanics of extraction shooters, it becomes pretty clear that people only like them because they have gambling elements. In the case of Arc Raiders, the goal of the game is to get loot so that you can maybe get better loot next time, wash rinse and repeat. It's quite literally a gambling game masquerading as a PvE third person shooter.
>>732001339Bungie quit making halo games in 2010 12 years before they were bought.
>>731996906>reintroduces a box office-flop to the theaters because of an internet meme>buys Bungie for 3.6 billion>sells all rights to a multi-billion dollar IP to Netflix a few years later
>>731996906The funniest thing about Jim Ryan era Sony was that they bought Bungie, and then shortly the company full of disgruntled Ex-Bungie/Destiny1 team members who either got fired or quit when the previous CEO of Bungie fell out with the board, and made ProbablyMonsters, which Firewalk, and then Jimbo expected Bungie to give advice and guidance to their other GAAS companies on how to do Live Service.Harold Ryan was literally fired by Pete Parsons and the Director of the old version of Destiny 2 fired with him, when that project became a tirefire. Then Pete Parsons took over and installed Luke Smith as Game Director. And somehow Jimbo didn't do a proper background check on the companies they bought in to make PlayStation Live Service shit. Concord was literally made by people who got shunned by Bungie.
>>731996906What prevents sony from putting all their management in charge and purge bungie from top to bottom? If they haven't done it by now then this situation it is completely sony's fault
I will never understand the American obsession with Halo
>>731996906I'm gooning if Marathon costs Sony millions.
>>732005212As if the 3.6b figure wasn't bad enough, Bungie was also allowed to maintain their independance even while under Sony ownership (assuming they met their profit targets). Their old CEO crashed the company, fired hundreds of people to cut costs, then jumped out when that stopped working. His replacement isn't a CEO, but a Studio Head, so we can assume Sony has tightened their grip.
>>731998682>that's assuming the game is goodwell if it's good you won't need to artificially promote it.
>>732001462the west should learn from capcom (lol)
>>732001462Nearly all the talent has left Japan as well
>>732005281And we will never understand your obsession with us.
>>731997159If I remember right they're also working as some sort of support studio for other Sony first parties rather than making new IPs besides working on Marathon. Sony might as well have just burned the money.
>>732005713I mean why would anyone buy washed out Halo studio for $3.6 billion?
Kinda hilarious that TLOU is the one setting where an extraction shooter makes perfect sense because survivors need supplies to survive, you need to collect things to base build, the maps are filled with enemy clickers surrounding important supplies and there are other rival humans that either can work with you to get the supplies or fight you for them. They could have easily been the first extraction shooter if Bungie didnt murder them because they were afraid of competition.
>>731998203What, are you retarded?
>3.6 billionsWhy not using this money to make dozens of smaller games ? You know, true ps5 exclusivityBecause there is less then 10 exclusive games on the ps5 lmao
>>731997159The Destiny IP should have stayed simply "Destiny" no sequel, just expansions and building of the world. They got very greedy and stupid with D2 and i'm glad I never bought it.
>>732005831sony was afraid microsoft was going to buy them first
>>732005997So Sony was afraid of Microsoft getting a chance of somehow reviving Halo with former Halo studio so they wasted $3.6 billion?
Reminder they actually thought making Destiny into Star Wars would save it
>>732006145it was a reaction to Microsoft’s acquisition spree
>>731996906The idiots should have bought FromSoftware instead. That would have been a much wiser investment. They even get to have Halo now so its not like buying Bungie ever made sense since Halo belonged to Microsoft and Microsoft will now give them a Halo demake.
>Blatantly obvious that shit was fucked the moment they hired a literal fanfiction writer>Said fanfiction writer made his headcannon, cannon(Osiris and Saint 14 are now gay)>Every single faction leader is a woman now>They all wanna help us which is pretty dumb>Introducing the fallen into the city was, I shit you not an actual allegory for IRL refugees, complete with strong black bald warlock telling the humans in the city that if they don't like it, THEY CAN ANSWER TO HER HER SHOTGUNI've been playing Destiny 1, I was there when it launched, I will be there when it dies, but it sad to see your comfort game go to shit like this, they can't even release events without them being broken anymore.
>>731998617looool
>>731998617should've been three fiddy billion>>731996964
>>732001180Classic shill behavior
>>732000879no live service game can ever be kino
Do people still play Destiny?
>>732001305>video game IP is worth shitI wonder how much mobile games are responsible for this, there is a 0/10 mobile game for every IP you can think of and even without the mobile games everyone knows game quality is way less consistent than even movie quality for returning IPs.
>>731996964Considering they were used as “advisors” (Do what we say or else Sony won’t be happy) was the business equivalent of wormtongue I’m sure they’re loathed.Reminder that persuaded Sony to finance such hits as concord (twice), multiple failed GAAS that were in dev hell & canceled (They had I think 15x in development all at once), forced multiple other studios to shutter from this persuasion by changing development to their style, kneecapped their competitors constantly (Were the reason LoU2 multiplayer & factions was canceled, Arrowhead/HD2 were given crumbs of support, the Spider-Verse game was never green lighted)& All the money Sony gave them was squandered, they’ve fired most of their staff, & Marathon is being setup to fail, as once it’s released it’ll be after their deal/contract expires. So the ones that matter can get on their golden parachute
