I figured out how to use Water Sword and other hold-input moves on grapple-able enemies. You just gotta quick attack first instead of using it from neutral. All martial arts can be used seamlessly during quick attack chains so doing it this way will prioritize the martial art. I think you still might need that setting turned on though because I had it on. Even with that setting on though, it won't work from neutral.

I just did a NG run in Nioh 2 before installing the demo, so the comparison in difficulty was based on what I had just experienced rather than what I thought it felt like when I did a playthrough several years ago. There are gradients of easy difficulty and those nuances to get to the point in new game where you're blazing through every fight are important to factor in. If you're relatively strong from the start I imagine repeat playthroughs won't be as interesting/engaging.

Managed to glitch up to Raiju. He didn't drop anything special aside from his core. I got a hat from him that has a set bonus focused on ranged damage. The loot spots nearby had some better stuff, including a spear with added fire damage and life regain on deflect (as if deflect wasn't already so damned good). The interim loot spot above the smith had a longbow and a talisman with 40 defense. I cheesed Raiju with the bow and the power and trueshot talismans while throwing down fire traps and chucking fire and water ninjutsu at him.

Seems the two roof spots both drop a piece of armor and a charm, either role, and the easier to get to one drops a ranged weapon as well, all in the 90-99 range, yellow, blue, or purple quality. If you reroll it until to get purple pants and chest for a single role, you could be VERY tanky for this early.
