2. make a game that's fun, fairly unique, deep, and doesn't run horribly. If it's in a genre PC players actually want to play, people will advertise it for you by word of mouth

You'll get way ahead by making a game that actually feels polished and well thought out, as long as you do that you'll be way ahead of most indies even if your idea isn't super original. The amount of absolute no effort slop out there is astronomical, you can take one look at most indies and see how low effort they are, as long as you can make something that doesn't scream third worlder you can get some traction.
Also it's stupid to go into it by thinking about how much money you're gonna make
