Gameplay wise, rewinding time was a very fun mechanic to mess around with and every other mechanic since has really lacked the sandbox-y kind of feeling it had. The real question is what made Max and Chloe such a lasting ship? Their dynamic is good enough but you'd think it was the best lesbian pairing in the history of all modern media with how much people go feral over them.

Played this sometime recentlySo many characters are just complete assholes and you don't get a single positive interaction with certain characters for the whole story.Then the final chapter the game happens and says "they may be assholes, but they're not monsters. you should feel bad that you were mean to them!"
It was real and just tried to tell a story. ( I view Before the storm as a DLC) All the sequels were trying to force some agenda and liberal propaganda.

The game falls apart once you can see through its veneer of "original" storytelling because it's basically just a ripoff of a lot of stuff e.g. Donnie Darko, Twin Peaks, Blue is the Warmest Color etc. The writers loved the ambiguity aspect of Twin Peaks so much, and huffed their own farts so much, it becomes a crutch and coupled with it constantly forgetting its own rules, the entire game suffers for it. It's by no means a great game but it's a 5 to 6/10 at most. Absolutely great soundtrack though which is a constant in these games.

Give this game to a more seasoned studio, increase the possibilities of rewinding time, open up the world from the small corridors and you'd have an incredible game. As it stands, it's an enjoyable little romp that you can finish in a few days. It's so inoffensive, people like you frothing at the mouth from its mere existence is just baffling.
