Why do dragons like hoarding treasure so much? They can't even spend it they're big stupid lizards.
>>
>>732188008
Gold is a soft metal and a sleeping dragon can breathe fire so it needs something both soft and with a high melting temperature to sleep on.

What does this have to do with video games? This is more like a general /tg/ worldbuilding question.
>>

I'm making a Dragon CRPG. Hoards are one of the main power mechanics. The bigger your dragon is, the bigger hoard you need. At certain stages of hoard size you'll get bonuses to your dragon stats. Going below a threshold will reduce your power instead, so beware of wasting too much or being robbed. You can eat some of the gold to restore HP, if you are injured.

Why did you crop out the part of the picture where I'm standing, pointing at my adorable autistic dragon wife and humorously also saying "mine"?
>>
>>732188008
maybe they do it to lure foolish adventures
>>
It's because lesser creatures consider it to be valuble. Same resson they demand flawless virgin sacrifices to eat when they don't even taste different. It's a blatant flex. They are fantasy equivalents of pagan idols, a tax and punishment upon societies which tolerate their existence.

Nothing, jannies don't care about these threads so they let them stay, same reason why warhammer 40k or firearms in fantasy settings threads don't get deleted and usually reach the bump limit when 90% of the posts aren't about vidya, not that I'm complaining.

I'll post some progress in /crpgg/ and probably dev threads here on /v/, when I get to proper coding and making assets. Currently working on a tabletop, paper version to flesh out core. And experimenting with coding stuff like map generation or inventory systems. It'll take a while probably, but somebody gotta finally make that perfect dragon rpg, you know?

Tolkien depicted them like that, because that's what he read about drakon in ancient myths and legends.

>>732188008
it's like disgusting billionaire kikes. They can't possibly use that money but knowing that hoarding it makes life miserable for normal people is enough.
Then they go next level and use that money to actively lobby parties and support corporations making your life even worse. At the very least the dragon stays in his cuck cave in the mountains and only comes out to devour a virgin or burn one meager backward village.

The issue with this scenario is assuming evil dragons are reasonable creatures. If he was a reasonable being he wouldn't intrinsically know every single coin in his horde, hunting down the thief of a single item for hundreds of miles and killing thousands just to track them down. The dragon doesn't want to part with the valuable objects even for the prospect of more valuable objects in the future.

European dragons are often associated with greed, largely due to Fafnir and recently his literary descendant Smaug.
>>
>>732189240
>a tax and punishment upon societies which tolerate their existence.
It's pretty fucking obvious that they are an allegory for greed and wealth, the interesting thing is what they are supposed to represent in the times where dragons were most relevant as a storytelling tool. They represent the wealthy but lazy and corrupt monarch pretty much perfectly, which is why games like Shadowrun put dragons in more "modern" roles of extreme power and wealth as CEOs, Nepo babies and corrupt politicians.

Do you think Dragons need an appraiser for determining what's valuable or are they natural born appraisers?

If they're natural born appraisers, why don't they become landlords that lease the land, mineral rights and air separately? Why are they retarded?
>>
Why do Dragons desire young virgin maidens? Get your mind out of the gutter and think about it.
>>
>>732188008
Some birds also do this in real life (corvids).

Every dragon naturally feels and intuitively estimates the value of a hoard or items they come across. Some choose to learn a proper appraisal and accountant skills for precision on top of that.
They don't respect fiat currency and other non dragon, society established values, because those are tied to civilizations or mortal races. These tend to devalue or disappear completely with time. Dragons like things that can exist as long as they do and only somewhat respect creatures that are on power level as them. So they rarely respect borders and claim of non dragons. It's dragon's territory first and you only happened to have "your" kingdom here, because you were allowed too or the dragon can't be bothered to btfo you in this century.
>>
>>732196629
They're definitely natural born appraisers.
>why don't they become landlords that lease the land, mineral rights and air separately?
Same reason they don't loan away a percentage of their hoard. They don't want filthy lesser beings touching their fucking valuables, even if they could technically pull a profit doing so.
I could still see a particular dragon maybe being an exception, but that's just that, an exception.
>>
>>732191303
Exactly. Dragons are not motivated by greed as much as they are by envy. They just want others to have less than them, and potentially enriching others while enriching themselves might upset their place on the top of the pile.
>>
fuck you for ruining everything, faggot
>>
>>732196629
Smaug instinctively knew exactly what was in his hoard and when it was missing, so presumably he had some grasp of its value too.
>>
>>732196629
A dragon can't be everywhere at once and managing an army to protect its land would be a hassle.

dragons symbolize sin
>greed: goes without saying
>wrath: belligerent and with a hair-trigger temper
>lust: they steal young virgin maidens. can breed with anything
>sloth: when not torching some nearby town, lays all day on top of its hoard
>envy: they despise power and will knock anyone powerful down a peg or two
>gluttony: will raid farms and gorge itself on their food, leaving nothing
>pride: haughty and arrogant, they think they stand above mortals
>>732188864
