I still don't know how this game got so popular. The story is mid, the characters are all one-note shades of mental illness, and the gameplay is severely outclassed by Larians previous works as well as games from other companies. Is it because there is a vacuum of western RPGs with more contemporary graphics or because it's a glorified dating sim with DnD 5e slapped on top?

What a damn shame. The game had a perfect setting and lore. I enjoyed the masterful work of Borislav Slavov (especially Song of Balduran, Last Light Theme, Raphael's Final Act). The combat is 7/10 lacking only the polishing and refinement of the interface. The main problem was, that it was created under the wave of political correctness. This caused the plot, the companions and their backstories to be politicized according to the vision of the mob-pressurized writers. The characters are dull and it is impossible to connect with them. The god-awful romance makes establishing an attachment with your companions impossible. It is absolutely cringeworthy in-terms of writing and plot. The Act 3 glitches/bugs also don't help. The only quest I enjoyed out of the entire game was the House of Hope with the Raphael fight in the end being the cherry on top.In all honesty, this game could have been perfect if it was released without the pressure from the political mob and if the developers didn't rush and better optimized the last act (which 7 patches later is still a mess). The developers have abandoned this game to the modders - a trait akin to Bethesda which I hate tremendously. And thus on my 3rd playthrough I rank this lower than Pathfinder WOTR and much lower than The Witcher 3.
