>some 18-year-old beat 2 top melee players with a based mid tier character and the guys he beat have been playing for 10,000s of hours and know everything there is to know about the game and have probably decades more experience than him
>one of them lives in his parents' mansion and they let him play melee all day while he rests his hands gayly on a soft pillow while playing
>the other one lives in a house bought for him by some random parasocial mentally ill nobody guy so he can play melee all day
how does this even happen? rapmonster plays luigi (BASED) and wasn't even alive when this game came out. he must be just out of high school while these other guys were playing every day his entire life. I don't even know how he knows about melee and how he isn't playing fortnite like every other zoomer.
any guesses on when they're going to make it so you can't play in tournaments unless you're 30+ and retarded?
>>
hmm I don't care
>>
just checked his results and he's placed like 8th best at a real tournament
who cares

hmmm these posts were me
forgot to mention im 40 and trans
not sure if that matters

Do you think reaction time can carry you that much over experience or is it just having all knowledge about the game available now? Even still, these players have played way more match ups and have seen everything by now plus they all have the same knowledge and practice tools available to them. So does it really come down to reaction time or maybe just being better and smarter?

the fact that he's luigi and beat him at all is hilarious suuck ibdw's dick more
>>
>>732201323
my guess would be good at cheesing and solid neutral. we have a great luigi where I'm from and playing against such a slippery and fast character can cause some neat bullshit.

So the thing about the old melee players is they actually DON'T have 20+ years of experience. They have years of playing like dogshit vs other dogshit players. Years of bad muscle memory for suboptimal movement, neutral, and punishes that they constantly have to struggle to unlearn to keep up with this new age of slippi kids.

Meanwhile the new generation of melee players are starting off with slippi and decades worth of knowledge easily available online. They are learning how to play the game in the most optimal way from day 1 and can freely play the best of the best whenever they want. Their practice inside the game is a million times more effective than what players could accomplish decades ago. If you teleported any of these modern slippi ranked fiends into the past they'd wash all the top players at the time.
>>
I thought melee trannies weren't allowed to have tournaments anymore.
>>
>>732197565
>how does this even happen?
There's a lot of factors
>MU inexperience (including against Luigi's recovery)
>Slippi allows players who play off-meta characters to actually practice, instead of begging people who would rather practice meta MUs for friendlies in-person
>young people are better at improving at competitive video games
>Rapmonster is good
>>
sounds like one of those instances where people that claim to be an expert at a game flounder if you force them out of the one specific meta they learned
it's like when I see people that autistically grind 16 star speedruns in SM64 have to actually play the rest of the game
>>
>>732203786
It's the same reason many melee players HATED Project M. They had to learn dozens of new matchups instead of fighting the same 4 characters over and over.
>>
>>732203874
m2k seems like the only top player that likes playing different match ups. he's playing akaneia right now.
>>
>>732204335
Does he even play smash anymore? Seems like m2k turned into a casual variety streamer.

yeah he always will
