Bought a used CPU and installed it but it's spiking temps for some reason. The cooler is secure and I applied new paste, so what's the issue? Did I get duped?

If it’s an intel 14000 series you probably couldn’t cool it with liquid nitrogen. If it’s not a defective cpu and the cooler is properly seated, try messing with the fan curve in your bios, just max it the fuck out. This won’t be a permanent fix but might make it usable while you wait on a better cooler to come in the mail (I assume you’re air cooling)
