>Outsold by the Switch 2 alreadyWas it really that bad?
yesthe pro gamepad was genuinely good though
After the success of Wii, it was a disaster and embarassment.
>had games>while the switch 2 doesn’t Grim innit
>>732200278>sold 4 times as much as the steam deckUhmmm steamie hut junior bros?
normalfags didn't even know what it was
>>732200391simple - different target audiencenintendo sells consoles because of a massive library of exclusives backed by an equally large team of lawyers who will dmca the shit out of emulatorssteam deck is trying to sell a handheld console experience to gamers when most of us dont leave the house enough to justify playing on anything other than our $2000 pcs.
mine doesnt work anymore.
>>732200349Nintendo basically thought it would sell itself by the Wii branding, but casual consumers thought it was an accessory, not helped by the lack of marketing. I wish I could find a post from a certain frustrated anon who worked at vidya retail at the time and couldn't hammer into peoples' heads that it's a brand new console, normies are that confused and obtuse.
>>732200843I didn't even hear about it at all until it was dead, I think it had no marketing.
>>732200745Tell chatgpt to use punctuation and capitalization -- retard
>>732200843I can't believe Nintendo didn't go for "Wii 2 like to play".
The Wii U was a terrible console for the average Joe, and it was a mid console for Nintggers. Yes, it has good games, and you better fucking love those games. I personally loved Xenoblade X, W101, Smash and MK8, so in my eyes it was great. I also had a soft spot for Starfox 0 and TMS#FE because I liked being a contrarian. Some other people may love Mario Maker, Windwaker HD, Monster Hunter, 3D World, etc, but there's a reason it only sold that much. Also, as someone who didn't have a gamecube/wii, the (unofficial) back compat was pretty good back when then, since dolphin was still not THAT good and the average PC was maybe not that up to snuff.Nowadays it's a waste of space. Probable the most devalued console out there with how almost everything of note got ported.
>>732200278It was horrendous. The Wii was flopping in Japan by like 2009 but NoA had so much power it convinced Nintendo granny games would sell forever.
>>732200925Case in point. Keep in mind that the Wii mania has already lost most of its steam by 2011.>>732201004Even if the Wii branding probably wasn't enough to attract consumers by that point, just simply naming it "Wii 2" would have helped a lot.
>>732200278The last console with free online. It did not deserve its fate. Nintendo did it dirty with awful marketing, branding and overcosted tablet.
>>732200370>had gameswhere? This thing had nothing before and after smash. This console dropped the ball so hard you'd think it left a crater the size of your mum's bare asshole on a cold winter day.
>>732200278>Was it really that bad? It's only Nintendo's worst selling home console ever. Who remembers when Iwata thought this shit brick would sell 12 mil by the end of 2013?
>>732200278Other than the awful marketing and terrible first year release schedule, the Wii U was a solution looking for a problem. So many games tried to cram in some form of second screen gameplay and it just did not work, with some games becoming basically unplayable because of it.Second screen gameplay was such a massive failure that nobody even remembers that PS3/PS4 and Xbox 360/Xbox One also supported it, even in many of the same games as the Wii U.
>>732200391It's understandable that Nintendo would be able to successfully capitalize on the mobile market with the Switch, especially in Japan where the on-the-go lifestyle is popular and the Japanese love to have that sort of convenience, but the Steam Deck doesn't offer much besides just being an mobile PC in place of a laptop. Unless you really have no time to just sit down and game on a more high end desktop PC from home or an internet cafe, the Steam Deck is not really all that necessary to have.
>>732203280THIS too bad there are mongloids here that still think its Switch vs Deck when it's not even close its more of Deck vs mini pcs, but the deck is somewhat neat for homebrewing practicing too bad the internet is sewn into consolewarring, its almost jarring that those people aren't in a mental asylum just like the investors that causes the said game industry to dwindle in quality
>>732203110That's the Virtual Boy though.
>>732204632I was going to say "second to the Virtual Boy" but I don't even think Nintendo really cared about that console. It was just meant to be a filler console until the N64 released anyways. Just some bullshit with a controller.
>>732200278Nintendo failed to read the market correctly, and the market wanted gaming experiences, not casual ones. The awful CPU also made the development for it a nightmare hell as well. Nintendo basically put a 2006 hardware in 2012/2013.
>>732200278The gimmick was not very well thought out, Nintendo screwed the pooch on the marketing, they weren't used to HD development so their release cadence was bad, and there was little to no third party support to make up for it.If you got a Wii U towards the end of its life you had a decent enough library but if you were actually following from start to finish you had some pretty bad game droughts.
>>732203110>WiiU>HybridWhat?
>>732208434They count being able to play the game in another room as a "handheld"
>>732202859>This thing had nothing before and after smash. Is that why half of Switch games during its early days were just ports of Wii U games?
