I think it's overrated by contrarians. The city is excellent and the atmosphere too but there's nothing outside and very little to do. The missions have all the hallmarks of the worst aspects of R* design and very few of the positives and pioneered the "drive there while NPC spouts exposition" mission design that so many criticize. Very few vehicles. I didn't hate the driving but I also didn't think it was amazing either.

In GTA3 it felt like a criminal-for-hire simulator, where you're just some guy with practically no name and your own personality inlaid on the avatar, just going around in the sandbox and making money committing crimes.GTA4 had some of this too, which is why it was good. Rockstar is doing the Bonnie and Clyde thing for GTA6 and I think it's going to alienate a lot of people. Real GTA fans don't want some crime love story; they want a criminal-for-hire sandbox game

Overrated tech demo. Takes place in the financial capital of the world but there is nothing to spend your money on besides shitty clothing. No haircuts, no car mods, no properties to buy. What is the point of the $250k heist when it's impossible to spend even half of that? Why can I not get a car in a color I want? Why does /v/ overrate this shit so much?

That's why I'm skeptical about GTA6. They're going all in on the story side of these games instead of sticking to the GTA3 formula that feels more like a general crime simulator. Will GTA6 be a technical marvel? Probably. Will it be fun? Press X to doubt.
