Why do some of you act like listening to videogame soundtracks outside of videogames is somehow a bad thing? Do you think it makes you cool or based or something? I think it just makes you sad, boring people

Video game music is music that's meant to accompany a game.
It's like listening to the soundtrack of a film separate from actually watching the film.
Why the fuck would you ever do that?
If I judge it's because I wonder what kind of person would do that.
>>
>>732211541
It isn't a bad thing and anyone who asserts that it is is insecure. That said your anime soundtrack is GAY.

I don't care what you listen to, I do think saying "I like vidya OSTs" means you haven't developed a real music taste though because that's not a genre, it's a type of media the OST is used for

I just like instrumental music.
I don’t want to hear extremely rich people singing about their lives.

What is "real" music taste?
Most People develop their lifelong musical tastes during a very brief window when they're 14-15.
>>
>>732212731
Taste based on the music, not the media the music was used in
>>
>>732211807

Listening to video game music in game is bad enough. I do t get how you people do it.
>>
>>732211541
It is at least better than most radio slop, which intended to plant psychological triggers for advertising jingles, movie soundtracks, pop-music and in-store music to condition you into liking slop.
>>732211982
"Real music taste" just involves being subjected to enough relevant background noise before listening to a specific piece of music, leading your brain to identify and complete patterns in the music, thus leaving you with a better initial impression due to your brain dumping dopamine for successful pattern recognition.
If you develop tastes for a "genre" then that's largely due to repeated, quasi-incestuous repetition of specific patterns among artists in that genre. Anyone with real taste not spawned by brain worms doesn't restrict themselves to a genre.

I can't get mad at gamers having no music taste since that's not where their interest lies, but it is annoying seeing /v/ constantly filled with confident assertions about every random soundtrack being amazing, especially when posts have relatively little or nothing to say about the other aspects of a game, like gameplay. I think anons just say the music is amazing when they like a game but they don't know why.

Most of the people on here are rejects that get picked on. When picked on, they think it is based on their likes or interests when reality it's just cause they are fucking spergs who can't act normal around other people.

I have a coworker who doesn't understand why I listen to OSTs, but when you ask him about his music interests, it's the most generic, cookie cutter taste, or whatever nigger rap is popular, claiming it's the greatest music of the generation. There's another girl who is also into that music, but she's self aware enough to recognize she just likes the beats, and is always happy to listen to anything.

There's no such thing as "real music taste". You like what you like. I prefer OSTs because they have no or very few lyrics, it helps me concentrate better. My wife's current obsession is: https://youtu.be/TcEdif_2PNY?si=hhL3ajJET7fkj_QL

It's not a bad thing and it's not necessarily worse music than """"proper"""" music, but I guess the difference is the amount of idk what else to call it but "cognitive space" it takes up or is designed to take up. What I mean is video game music is designed to be listened to in the background, it's designed to share cognitive space with the rest of the game. They can't do too much fancy or attention grabbing shit with their music or it will start becoming overstimulating.

I mean I love rock and synth music from smaller artists.
Still prefer instrumental.

Touhou has really good music! And I'm more of an electronic music guy.

Yeah I only got on in January of last year
And i only switched after I noticed the app i had been using before (vanilla music) had some playback issue and went searching
Musicolet is easily the best option i found, looks good, no ads, simple.
I even went and got the premium upgrade for the replay gain, multi artist support, and the extra play history stuff.
Replay gain and multi support in particular have ended up being much handier than I would've hoped given that game OST's often have multiple artists involved on any one track/album and mastering from any game's soundtrack to another is usually very different so I would use to have to mess with volume all the fucking time while replay gain has helped dramatically with it.
The premium price was high but it was worth it desu
