Better than anything in Trails

Nobody plays Ys. Everyone considers Trails as the best. Trails in the Sky makes top ten JRPG lists these days. Ys never had a game anyone considers to be above 7.

They only like the first 2 games in Trails, of which 1 is considered build up so you are left with only SC. The other entries are considered build up to literally garbage payoff in CS and Daybreak.

No idea, but I'm only interested in Ys. Lacrimosa was fantastic, so I'm looking forward to playing Monstrum Nox.

I mean you're not wrong. And it presents the beats pretty poorly.

The combat is very "brain off" and it explains subtext directly for people who suck at reading social cues. Only one I liked was 3rd, because it was a decent dungeon crawler.

I liked the first 5 trails games, then dropped the series after Hajimari because after the 5th game all of them are pretty bad.
Played Ys up to 8 and I don't dislike any of the games. Might start 9 soon.

My thoughts exactly. The last really good Ys game was Memories of Celceta while Ys 7 was decent but needed a block feature. I also had way more fun playing a fan translation of Ys 5 for "SNES" than with Ys 7, 8 , and that shitshow 9.
I also dislike the whole big "not-Roman" empire and the whole "not-Catholic" church crap and the heavy bastardization of European folklore that fails to distinguish a god from a metaphysical story involving that same god.
