In certain sections it is, but well it's an open world game now, it's small sure but there's still a lot of iddle running around and most of the mobs you find out there can be dispatched without a single thought, also most of your significant upgrades comes from finding items out there so inevitably you'll be running circles a lot hunting those markers in the map, and even during the linear mission there's a lot of skills you'll miss on if you don't go for all the chests and some of them can be annoying to get to
It's still a great game from the looks of it, but it definitively has the most boring moments of the franchise, unless you're really into open world exploration regardless of the genre

Those default controls have the forward/backward command moves for weapon arts. I initially didn't mind it but it turns out face buttons for them are a lot more consistent during combos and holding guard.
I also prefer spirit skills do not require holding defense. This scheme also lets you choose if you're gonna switch style while bursting or not with either A or B buttons while holding RT, I usually want to switch out of ninja mode but not switch out of samurai mode so it's nice to have multiple options.

The only issue that a single button to burst is also very nice, I've been trying to help the anon who wanted this and it turns out making a macro for this is trivials.
