I'm playing the PS1 original right now and grinding out some vocations on disc 2, which is also having the side effect of grinding out cash for some better gear. I'll probably move the story along pretty soon though as I mostly just wanted to finish leveling Shepard on Auster.

It really is, I don't even need to play it to conclude that.
The only things it has going for it are the pretty graphics,voice acting, and the class system changes are probably an improvement, cause the original system was definitely flawed.
There's also the branching paths and ways that you can somewhat alter the story, depending on how they implement that, it might kinda sorta make up for the cut islands, but I'll still be missing what they cut anyways and wishing the whole game could've been remade.

Basically I'm in it for what they did leave in, and the prospect of altering some events is intriguing.

7 is 10/10 but 8 is contender for most charming game ever made. I remember being surprised it was 3d because it looked so good I assumed it was pixels. It's the last game in the series since they went with visible encounters so it will never be topped.
6 is a great game but the DS version is the worst localization ever done; actual illiterate gibberish.
9 is ok. Visible encounters fuck it up. Silent party instead of just protag so none of the story matters at all. MMO tier bullshit gathering. Online only fuckery. Grinding randomized dungeons.
10 is ok. Dungeons have no design. Can't change party member's classes. Searching towns becomes tedious because of how many there are. World is huge though and you get lots to do. Missing a lot of the online version but is still probably 200 hours.
11 is garbage. Every story beat is a fuck you. Extremely limited character growth. 'Alchemy' is hamstringed so you can't make anything decent. Only game I have been sexually harassed by men, and you can't do anything about it.
5 is fine. People like it more than I do so no point trying to describe why.
1-4 are NES games and playable for historic context.

Builders 2 is 10/10. Minecraft but cool furniture and NPCs with AI to do things like farm.
Heroes 2 is ok. Gauntlet clone but has a world unlike the first game. Devolves to shitty online at the end but the game itself is decent without it.
Monsters Joker 3 Pro is crazy good. All the other games you finish before you get anywhere near making the higher monsters and the higher monsters aren't even better than the Killing Machine. This game lets you transfer traits instead of just skills so you get much more customization.

I don't know what could be 'fucked up' about them. Builders would be shit on a console because of the complexity of the controls for building. Heroes 2 is much better than the first one. You'd use a controller for these so shouldn't be any different than console.
The PC port of 11 is the game that is fucked up because they took the shittier console graphics from the nintendo version instead of the earlier PC version.

Seems fine to me. I imagine the 3 islands they cut were probably the worst or least popular ones. Making the others optional seems cool too, because a game with a bunch of mini arcs on various islands seems like it would benefit from not being entirely forced.

With that being said, I dislike many of the game design decisions like having quest markers all over the place telling you where to go. I also wish the cover art was 2D and felt more like Toriyama overall.
