I wish the Telltalle Monkey Island had better graphics. And by better I mean tolerable to the human eye. The game seems good on all other metrics - writing, VA, puzzles - but the visual style is about as appealing as a bonobo's anus, and I could never get into it for that reason.

On the Steam page for the MI1 remake, they have this image right next to the original (>>732233329)
They are so proud of this they put it right there in the first marketing materials you see

We haven't been able to expect good-looking Monkey Island games since TCOMI back in 1997. The graphics in the fourth game were universally scorned, the Telltale games have a look that is very divisive, the first game's remastered graphics are mostly disliked, and the most recent game, Return, managed to alienate anyone who had been interested in a Monkey Island sequel before it released, so objectionable was its artwork. The best-looking Monkey Island entry of the past 29 years was probably the remaster of MI2. They did a competent job with that one. Unfortunately, I didn't like the original MI2 much.

I still don't get the decision behind Return's artstyle

guybrush is the rey of adventure games
>>
>>732234954
I wouldn't mind the new artstyle if they made the animations more fluid to match.

Just look at how terrible it looks when Guybrush walks

All the world's leading experts in soul removal were brought together to formulate that remaster. It was a Manhattan Project for an anti-soul bomb the likes of which the world had never seen before.

Bro was out here doing insult swordfighting with the power of sheer awkwardness and still beat everyone. Peak adventure gaming.

I loved these when they were coming out, but holy hell I do not remember them looking this bad.

Eh, it have us voice acting for the original game, so it wasn't entirely for naught in the end.

You think Rare will ever add more Monkey Island story missions to Sea of Thieves? Or was that just a one time thing?
>>
>>732234675
That’s always been the only thing holding me back from playing it. MI1-4 had awesome art styles. I was surprised to find that there are a lot of people who hate MI4’s grafix which I think is kind of odd since the game is fucking gorgeous. The “Tales” games definitely seem like a total eyesore, though.

>universally scorned
Were they really? First time I ever saw anyone mentioning disliking MI4’s art style was on /v/. MI5 and MI6 I can appreciate the total dislike for since everything about them just looks weird as fuck, but all the other games look great IMO. Even the remastered artwork looks pretty good.

Most likely a one time thing. And while it was cute and enjoyable it was essentially a big pile of "remember Monkey Island?". It didn't really endeavor to be anything beyond fanservice

>actually wanted to check out Sea of Thieves after that announcement
More shitty games I would never play otherwise should tempt me with promises of MI content.
