If you play on low difficulty yeah, each encounter is a little puzzle to solve. Some enemies require jump attacks, some attack you while you're in the air, so you gotta dispatch those before you get to kill the airborne enemies. Combos just make killing them faster, and nailing them fluidly without getting his makes you feel like a true god of war.

Not only is the puzzle element of party composition and boss counterplay very easy to solve most of the time, there isn't even an execution barrier to keep you engaged

taking a beat'em up and making it 3D results in games like God Hand, where positioning is just as important as ever.

But OP is not wrong, hack'n'slash games in their purest form are braindead games, but to me the thing is, there is nothing wrong with that?
Sometimes i wanna sit and play a hard game, a tactics one, or an action rpg where changing one piece of equipment can make a huge difference, sometimes i want to sit and solve puzzles that require more than just pushing a button to open a door, but other times i just wanna sit, turn my brain off, and enjoy some mindless slashing of enemies.

Yeah for the shittier games in the genre this is true. For games like Ninja Gaiden they replace the enemies entirely with new ones, the patterns are different and harder and they do a lot more damage too. Even the default normal difficulty was too hard for games journos and even most normies too. The original God of War series which the OP posted an image from was pretty difficult on the higher difficulty settings too. You definitely had to learn the game and be decent at it to get through.

The games should have combo ratings. You could also require non-repetition for the most damage.

The games can be really good. I would have good mobility and have fun enemy tells and intense timing.
