This game was overhated as fuck. It's literally the only modern game I've played that made me feel exactly like I was back playing those mindless fun PS1/PS2 era platformers that we grew up with.
>>
It's just one of those barebones tech demo launch games, its not good but basically every gen has one.

It's not barebones at all though. The combat is fun as fuck, it's a very simple moveset, but it's all about spacing and learning enemy movesets, dodging their attacks and then quickly weaving in your attack, it has that old school feel and is even pretty damn hard on the higher difficulties. You start the stage off small and helpless, but by the end you're this massive towering behemoth who just walks right over the same enemies that pushed your shit in earlier, destroying the environment and particles just flying everywhere.

KNACK TOO BABYYYYY
20/10 - IT'S A KNACKTERPIECE

It's a piece of garbage with an extremely ugly gremlin/golem as a main character, shit platforming, literally braindead difficulty so you can't ever lose and bland designs on everything from stages to characters to the story. I'm shocked Cerny somehow strong armed sony into making a sequel

Be honest OP, the only reason you're defending this game is because you played it as a kid

The first game only has a 0.6% platinum rate and the sequel isn't much higher at 1.2%. For comparison, the only major platformers released on Playstation with a lower platinum rate are Sackboy Big Adventure (0.4%) and Crash 4 (0.2%). However in the case of Sackboy the trophy list is weighed down significantly by one challenge, and everyone knows by now what a grindy slog It's About Time is to 100%. Knack 1/2 are not long games, they aren't even that punishing, yet most people haven't platted them and that's because they assumed it would be easy, turn your brain off slop. It's perhaps the greatest instance of a playerbase being filtered. And by a scrimblo tech demo of all things.

Mascot platformer games usually didn't have a strong focus on platforming, they were more action/adventure games

Actually it's because Knack's platinum requires getting a bunch of very rare diamonds from chests which require save scumming the same chest for hours and hours on end. Also you have to beat the game like 3-4 times.

The game is really hard on hardest difficulties without the unlockable skins, but Knack platinum never makes you do that, you can use Diamond Knack for everything once you unlock it

The plot was terrible, platforming was mediocre, combat was repetetive and the main character had no charisma or agency. It's a definition of a 4/10 game.

It's not really a platformer and no one plays these games for the story. It's a fun action/adventure game and the combat is really fun, it's like Souls but with less rollslop and no RPG mechanics.

I liked the last chapters where you're the size of a skyscraper and you just step on previously massive enemies. Apparently it ran like shit on PS4, but on PS5 it was a technical showpiece that has aged very well
