Ironman is one of those things that sounds dumb and arbtirary because "lol why would I lock myself out of content?"
The thing is that without ironman modern runescape is basically just a GE simulator. Everything you earn is functionally completely liquid and you're just playing a money up/down game. Ironman is the only thing left that makes you engage with the game, and they've introduced a lot to make ironman less tedious and bullshit. It's still full of grinding, but so is a normal account. Ironman actually makes the grinds more varied, because you're grinding for various items and stuff instead of ONLY grinding for XP and gold, and nothing else.
tl;dr:

I would generally recommend ironman to new players, and shifting to a main later if you feel like it. Plus lategame ironman goes from fun to dumb.

Actually I'll expand on this further: a lot of what makes Runescape unique in this day and age is the many different ways to progress, and the lack of an end game treadmill the way other.
On an ironman, especially if you're not familiar with the game and aren't just following an overall account guide, OSRS becomes this really unique sandbox where finding your own ways to progress is in and of itself engaging because there's so many different methods to progress in every skill. Don't be afraid to look up stuff but try to find your own methods and don't rely TOO heavily on quest helper / quest wiki pages.
If you go into it with the right mindset and accept that there's still going to be straight up unapologetic grinds there isn't much like it.

It's honestly a bit of a shame that treasure hunter is being removed. It wasn't enough to invalidate how long it'd take to get to 99s, let alone 120s, and it's not like RS is going to be any less ""P2W"" when Bonds will still exist in the game. It basically just amounts to be a performative action that takes away occasional little bonuses from newbies in order to try to draw in OSRS players that will still screech "ezscape!!!!!!" every 5ft because RS3 is more focused on actual content to level with instead of just grinding.

Why does anyone play Deadman?

Ironman is cool but doesn't seem very viable for f2p.
Been playing one for a few days and magic just seems like a brick wall.
Nothing I can kill can make back the rune costs and even if it did, high alch does not seem like it will do much versus shop prices because I will have to grind extra hard to get nature/law runes to use that spell.
Been balancing the bank with crafting but again the later stuff is high alch.
Imagining ranged would be similar for arrows since you can't fletch them, but maybe melee would fare better since my ammo could be fish and pies. Either way I don't really want to train those.

There are ways of increasing drop rate, mostly equipment. XP rates are fast until you hit prestige 9 in a skill. There are technically unique bosses, you also have raids not just GWD, there's more than that as well.

Play Ironman until you've completed most of the quests and have a Fire cape. after that the content ramps up in difficulty so much that ironman just becomes a chore. I played 600 hours last year and did just that, it forces you to learn the game which to me is fun. Most old quests with limited inventory suck tho
