what genre is final fantasy?
is it fantasy, or sci fi? is there continuity between the games, or are they all stand-alone?
i played 4 and 6 as a kid, and it seems like the series changed drastically after that into sci fi, while retaining the "swords and magic" combat. except 14, which is medieval again i think. and i've never really understood what's going on with it, or what it's really supposed to be.

the early games (1, 3, and 5 mainly) have a "fantasy but with ancient advanced tech" thing, the later ports of ff1 turning the sky fortress into a generic temple from a space station is fucking gay
