I mostly use it for games I already played and enjoyed and wanted to play again anyway, so the cheevos are good incentives for that.They also serve as a reason to actually engage with parts of the game you usually don't have a reason to. For example I like the Mega Man X games, but with all life bar extensions + body armor part that halves all damage + 4 subtanks I never bothered learning the patterns of the fortress bosses since I could easily tank the damage through their fights just dodging the bare minimum, so even if it's just for a meaningless badge now I have a motivation to actually get good at fighting them, and I'm having fun in the process.
