Are these games any good?Was in the mood for some Jap horror that isn't the two big ones like Resi and Silent Hill, and this one personally just seems scarier to me from what I've seen.Unfortunately only a couple are on Steam but I got a PS2 I could play the old games on if they're worth it.

If you're up for something unapologetically Japanese in not only its design philosophies but its very aesthetic and storytelling then it delivers, but it doesn't meet you halfway with that shit. If you have a PS2 then absolutely play the ones there first, preferably in release order. If 1 is too jank then you can move on to 2, but definitely give both a try before playing 3, THEN move on to the ones on Steam if you're interested. Verdict's still out on the upcoming remake of 2, could end up being a new de facto entry point but I'm not holding my breath.

I don't think it's at all controversial to say that FF3 mops the floor with SH4 in terms of typical gameplay in spite of its worse ideas. Like yes, Kei sucks and the miasma chapters are padding BUT the Rei/Miku parts represent FF gameplay perfected, and the Manor of Sleep is the most labyrinthine setting in the series. SH4 represents no such peaks with its base gameplay, even if you want to fellate the Twin Victims or whatever it's not even close to SH1 or SH3. This digression is to say, FF3 is easily the better overall game.The safehouse aspect, though. Both have their highs and lows. I would say FF3 curates more nuanced scares but SH4 actually utilizes the concept as a mechanic, with the rugpull of safety in the second half being perhaps the game's single best idea. I think I'd give this one to SH4 despite FF3 being better in almost every other way. SH4 simply tries harder with it, does more with it.

As someone who also enjoyed Resident Evil Revelations, I did like the game's general ideas with water as a mechanic - fighting in water hindered movement and being drenched increased enemy aggression/damage output. Obvious sex appeal applications aside, I thought those were good ideas. It also stands out a bit more on its own terms with its forest exploration and somewhat faster paced action. It's not one of the better games by any means but I still enjoy it a lot, same as any other mainline Fatal Frame.

My favorite horror series. Cute Japanese girls doing cute Japanese things. Atmosphere is often stronger than RE and SH. Gameplay also isn't quite as brainless and requires some thought during their post game modes. Like Siren, it's unapolagetically Japanese and filters plebs. 1>4>3>2>5
