The main character of my dream game is a therapist who talks down mentally ill girls from commiting crimes, how should i write him?
>hey I know the country is falling apart and there was just a small civil war after a communist coup attempt, but they really aren't so bad

>>732266340That actually sounds a fun game OP. Will you get to woo them too if you decide to be a bad therapist? Also, is your pic a real game? Is it any good? What happens? Link/qrd?
>>732272557YeahAnd yeah
>>732272704No
A therapist is more about listening and responding. The client does the talking, the psych does the questioning. It's the girls who need fleshing out.
>>732266340/lit/fag here, with bonafidesWriting a therapist isn't particularly hard, especially if you want to write a good instead of a realistic one. You need to hit a few key points:>cause over symptomA good therapist gently looks for the cause of certain behaviors/feelings instead of focusing on the symptoms directly.>guide over leadA good therapist rarely makes declarative statements or uses prescriptivist language. In most cases, a therapist seeks to guide the patient to realizing the cause of their issues and helps them to work out safe and productive coping mechanisms. "Healing" happens very rarely in reality, with therapy itself being a coping mechanism for most people, it's important to remember that.>active listeningMostly, therapists just listen to people talk and ask them short questions while trying to accomplish the above. The only time a therapist takes a leading role in a conversation is when a patient has a question or the therapist is offering an alternative perspective that can be useful to the patient.>soft careThe therapist rarely get emotionally involved in anything since their role is to act as a force that unclouds the patient's mind. A good therapist isn't a "character" in the patient's life.Of course, you can break any of the above to make a therapist who is flawed or accomplishes some narrative objective you have, but that's those are the root elements of the archetype off the top of my head.>select triforce dick>exactly 2 starts with 5 spikes>select pixel goatse
>>732266340Read psychology books, classics like Freud and Jung, more recent textbooks, as much of what therapists/psychologists are required to read in school as possible.I'd recommend a lot of research because writing therapy/psychology stuff without being cringe or retarded is very hard, and getting to know the territory will help a lot.
>>732277978>as much of what therapists/psychologists are required to read in school as possibleLMAO
read therapy books and apply what youve learned to scenarios you make up
>>732277978This is going to sound dire, but universities aren't really assigning books for students to read anymore. I had to plunder books (Fechner's elements of psychophysics, a couple books on subliminal perception, sensory deprivation, etc. for example) from my honours thesis supervisor's personal library to find anything good to read. The professors usually just tell us to read articles published within the last two years rather than actually reading books. It's concerning! There's a lot of really good stuff in these old books! Books from the 19th and 20th century are history lessons just as much as they are a pseudo-lecture given by their authors. Then again, I'm studying psychology with the goal of pursuing a career in experimental psychology, rather than clinical, so maybe it's different for people who want to be therapists. I'll leave the gross mushy gushy emotional stuff to those guys. All I want to do is learn more about perception!t. 4th year undergrad
>>732277978nigga i wanna make a game about a therapist fucking menheras not be the rapist
>>732277628can my therapist be autistic? He could be well versed in how a guy think and what to say but feeling none of it and just doing it rationally

>>732266340I think having a proper therapist sounds boring. I like the idea of playing as a kind of fucked up therapist, just barely holding it together himself, and the player has choices that can influences his decisions in how he deals with his patients, and those decisions also affect how his own world view.

If you're writing a story about any sort of medical professional doing their work, for the love of god, consult a real one. Otherwise you will end up embarrassing yourself.
>>732266340When people encounter difficult issues in their lives, they usually want to talk about those issues with someone who they know they can confide in.Therapy is basically commodifying this human instinct by holding another person (in this case, the therapist) out as someone for whom their attention and loyalty can be bought. Therapists don’t actually change or help anyone beyond scratching this social itch in exchange for cash.Change and self-improvement are internally motivated. You can’t convince a person to not do something if they’re dedicated to doing it. All you can do is restrain them from doing it (jail).Very young people can be moulded towards positive behavior by being around a parental figure who models effective behavior for them 24/7. But you can’t change someone who has already gone through the moulding process, because their identity is no longer elastic.
