This is what the ideal D-pad looks like.>4 separate buttons, so no possibility of registering diagonals when only pressing one direction>buttons are high in the middle where the four cardinal directions are>buttons slope down towards the diagonal lines that separate each button>diagonals can be pressed intentionally other by spreading finger across the high spots of two buttons or pressing the sloped areas which are side by side>quarter and half circle movements can be done by pressing high spot on one button and sliding finger in circular motion, sloped edge of next button will let finger slide up to top of second buttonIf you don't know why the slopes are necessary, look at the semi-common and cheap Playstation controller mods that give it individual buttons, and see how it feels to do circular motions.
