Well. It looks fantastic and I respect what it's doing. I genuinely do appreciate the way it's about settling and industrializing a planet and how the mechanics reflect that, that you're building factories, outposts, laying powerlines, draining and rerouting water and so on. I think you call that sort of thing ludonarrative harmony, it feels very purposeful, the whole settler thing isn't just part of the backstory, it's actually at the core of the gameplay.And I enjoy the Kojima influences not just in its presentation but it's overall game design, just like Kojima's games since MGS V, it's a game about doing a job and while there is a grander story to it, it's happening while you perform that job. It's just that so far the story hasn't really gotten going yet. There's stuff being set up, you got your rather generic evil bandits serving as antagonists but so far it's all still very surfacey. A lot depends on whether the game will be able to set up good story arcs in the long term. I understand the original Arknights got a lot of critical acclaim for its writing and world building so I'm cautiously optimistic for Endfield but as of yet, it has nothing that particularly gripped me. Mind, I'm not through with the current content yet, I heard it picks up once you get to the second region so maybe this is just the meat I have to eat before I can have some pudding.

The worst offenders are the inhuman water blob shits in wulong though, they have no limbs and they aren't animated so you're entirely dependent on visual effects to see if they're even attacking.
