was it good?
>>732278804best digimon game if you can stomach all the backtracking
>>732278804I loved it as a kid, but i dont think i could go back to it, too grindy for my taste
>>732278804I remember getting sidetracked by the minigame cards and forgot to actually complete the game.
>>732278804How about you play it instead of asking for the opinion of others
Yes, I loved playing the game as a kid.But my disc got really scratched so whenever I would replay the game it would always freeze at the first battle, which made me upset.
>>732280579play it on an emulator and turn off frame limit
>>732278804Fuck no. The world and sprites do have the highest amount of soul, however.
>>732278804no
>>732278804It's highly soulful and I spent way too many hours going for a 100% savefile before it went corrupt one day for some reason.Regardless, it's alright otherwise, if you just want to play the main story I remember Kyukimon being a god in my experience.
>grindy as fuck>very pretty, the world is very fun to explore>decent enough storyline>moderately difficult>a lot of backtracking, oftentimes you're not told where to go>grindy as fuckoverall, it's great if you're into that type of jrpgs
>>732278804it's no DW1
>>732278804everything about it is superb, save for the actual gameplayso no, not really>>732282195not even Next order or Re:digitize are as good and those are direct sequels
NoI like it anyway
>>732278804Massive amounts of both soul and awful gameplay, do with that as you will.
>>732278804excellent gamebiggest issue is that it never explains all the extra traversal options you unlock and where stuff leads.there is never back tracking more than like 5 screens until you unlock the north zone and digging, and its only that long because of the mazes, and you are 90% of the way through the game at this point. if it actually had good info instead of you just needing to know the backtracking would be minimal and its the only stain on an otherwise excellent game.its a real shame
There's no sense of direction, but it's also not a fully open world. You just have to work around the game's bullshit and see what sticks. I don't know if the game is too smart for me or just badly made. The pixel art on top of pre rendered PS1 maps is a neat visual style for the digital world.Soundtrack is godlike for such a forgotten game.
>>7322788049/10 if you are playing on an emulator6/10 otherwise
>>732278804I had this and DIgimon World 1 as a kid., I don't think I got very far in either one, I didn't know how to do anything. I just walked around the world and enjoyed the art.
It's a game that's more fun to think about than it is to play.
>>732278804No.It's a very aesthetically pleasing game, but it's not good.
>>732285520>biggest issue is that it never explains all the extra traversal options you unlock>anon doesnt eitherlmau>>732290796that apllies to most gamews made before the mid 2000's
>>732278804>was it good? No.The big problem is that it looks like the took the stats from DW2 when porting monsters into DW3. The issue that causes is that boss encounters in DW2 were three-on-one, and so a boss having much higher offenses, defenses, and speed was compensated with three characters attacking it every turn. In DW3, all fights are one-on-one, and having a high speed means that a boss will outspeed and get multiple turns to every one of yours. For most bosses, I had to rely on digivolving to even get past it because otherwise it would wipe my team. Also, you need to play the card game constantly thruout the story, because the opposing cards will get stronger the further you go and so if you try to start playing later, everything will be curbstomping you with massively high stats cards.
>>732278804When you have no idea what the fuck you're doing? No. When you figure out what to do? Yeah.
>>732292493You can use the gym and train speed to the cap and just faceroll the entire game, because speed also determines evade chances.>Need to play the card game constantlyYou don't, you can fish for boosters at any point in time to get a deck up and running, you don't even need the real busted cards to stomp everyone.
>>732278804it's peak
>>732278804i never managed to complete it as a kid, way too complicated for my esl brain
>Magic is shit>Speed is broken>Ridiculously slow to do anything, a trash mob you one tap takes almost an entire minute with high encounter rates>No reason not to just solo most of the game, no way to share gains >Counter Crest>Retarded routing and backtracking>Circuit Board>Card game is completely scripted, enemies always draw the same>Magic is fucking worthless >Really good sprites It's not great, but very nostalgic
>>732292228>anon doesn't eitherI mean do you want me to tell the dozens of ways different maps link up when you are trying to go to different areas and have maps prepared of the different travel methods linking up?you just kind of have to have played the game and see where different shit takes you and just know, otherwise you need to use a guide, and most guides don't tell you about these and people just seem to walk from place to place, if you don't explore you never find itwhich is exactly why its a problem with the game, if you have already played it a bunch and are super familiar with it then its not really an issue, but when you are not the backtracking is miserable because you don't know how to get rid of most of it, its a catch-22 and the game really needs to have done a better job of just telling you where shit takes you. even using maps for the underground it will take you fucking ages to go pull up a map and figure out a path, you just gotta know.
>>732292860physical evade chanceyou basically die to techs (or get super fucked up by them) if you do this95% of the damage you take is physical attacks, not techs, so yeah you faceroll the game, but you can put a few points into wisdom to reduce tech damage AND get tech evade chance, but its only really an issue far later into the game where techs actually start just outright killing you that you need to worry
>>732293319magic sucks dick both for you and the enemy, you can go the entire game without putting a single point into wisAnd you can go even further on the degeneracy and equip counter crest to really kick the game into the curb.
>>732293015those games were made to sell guides so dont beat yourself up about it>>732293105>Magic is shit>Speed is brokenthose bastards at the gym lied to me>>732293241oh ok. thought there was like a teleport to town feature everyone but me knew about
My first JRPG.
>>732278804yes and no
>>732293015I owned 1 and 3 and don't think I made it far past the first area in either game. Idk if I was genuinely retarded or like I didn't even know there was more game to it than that.
>>7322959401 is obtuse as fuck so no one can blame you
peak digimon core jrpglovely worldI feel lucky I got to play it as a kid on my ps1, during those years public tv on my country aired the first 4 Digimon seasons.
Game that is carried by its graphics. Im not saying that as an insult. You will put up with the slog of battle to see what cool prerendered landscape and pixel art is around the next corner. And it will be worth it.
>>732278804>amazing, memorable art>nice setting, world, and worldbuilding>entertaining minigames>catchy soundtrackshame about the>maze of copy-pasted rooms>constant encounters that can't be turned off even when backtracking>lackluster gameplay>evolution grind (you'll be overleveled by the time you unlock high tier evos) and forced level grind (post-game quest requires taking everyone to lv 45)>retarded plot (why battle the kid when you can just him with guns) thoughthough
I want a remake
>>732292860>speed also determines evade chances.and accuracywisdom does the same but for magic, meaning mages get burdened with trainins not only spirit and wisdom, but also speed. only upside is they become good at applying and resisting status effects (wisdom determines the chances to inflict/suffer status effects, including death)
my favorite part is when lisa was about to get forcibly married
>>732293575wis is magic defense not magic offensetechs are perfectly fine, its just most digimon have shit techs and you need to put in work to load decent techs and get decent unique techseven physical techs are really goodbut just getting up speed and putting on high attack weapons scales linearly and is incredibly easy to domagic does a bunch of a damage, its just as good as physically attacking and better in many cases if you exploit weaknesses, but you need to manage SP, find good techs, level up your evos to load them, and do a whole bunch of shit when its again, incredibly easy and straight forward to make a good physical attacker. the game isn't so hard that you need to min-max or anything so its kind of pointless to do magic, but it isn't that its bad.
>>732299313I never said it was magic offense, the context was for defense as you don't need any points on it to tank every magic attack in the game and not get one tapped (because magic sucks)>Magic is just as good as physically attackingIt's quite literally not, you are spending twice as much TP to achieve a worst result.
>>732299313Magic offense doesn't scale like physical does, it's a set range. Magic is basically always worse and requires more investment in less useful stats to do way less damage, particularly since you can imbue basics or have elemental physical skills.
>>732299313>wis is magic defense not magic offensewis is magic evasion and accuracy, and status effect accuracy and evasion. also, healing amount with healing spellsspirit determine magic damage taken and inflicted>its just as good as physically attackingno it's not thanks to the retarded damage formula. each spell has a fixed damage cap (e.g. patamon's air shot deals up to 440). the cap is achieved at 3x the target's spirit.>better in many cases if you exploit weaknessestrue, magic does more than enough damage usually if you have the right spells, but in the endgame physical attacks have no caps so they're better in the long runthen again, physical attackers do need spirit (lowers damage received) and wisdom (enemies with instant death will fuck you up otherwise) so the disparity isn't as huge as it appears
>>732278804Yes.
>>732285381I replayed the game recently and when that happened I felt like I had vietnam flashbacks, this was the beginning of the end, and it's so close to the game start
>>732300838I play it with random encounters disabled because fuck killing kunemon/kuwagamon/etc. when backtracking. also, circuit board is pure aids
Great over world aesthetics, great music, decent enough story when it's actually happening, boring gameplay, annoying world traversal and backtracking. Card game is whatever, but there's enough depth to do some fun stuff with decks you grind up for. You will inevitably need to grind anyways, since it's better to do so just to be safe. I always find myself dreading the end game because it tends to slow down a great deal and the Digmon segments aren't enjoyable for me. Even the second server is just a recolored version of the first server but for the bad guys. This is going to be a hot take, but I like Digimon World 2 more for its core gameplay, dungeon crawling, and actually going in prepared for obstacles, even if the game was abysmally slow. I unironically think if they removed the tedium, sped up the core gameplay, and didn't force you to fuse as many Digimon together to raise level caps, as well as differentiating dungeon design, you'd have a fantastic game on your hands. Extra Digibeetle customization also could be neat.
I loved this game as a kid but I tried going back to it but I found it basically unplayable, super comfy game but absolutely miserable to actually play, speeding up the game on an emulator is essentially a must
>>732278804Why the fuck does that bear have a cap?
>>732301738For a game that has like 6 tracks, they are pretty damn good 6 tracks.
>>732301852why dont you
>>732278972Some dude released a mod for DW3 with fast travel, try it out anon
>>732301738DW2 is a flawed game, but once you understand how the DNA system works it's really satisfying to slowly build up your team with all the skills you want
>>732301790The way I see it>old Pokemon games>fun premise>substandard visuals>okay music (nice compositions but the old music chips are awful) >substandard story >painfully boring gameplay that's intolerable without emulator speedup >zero challenge in the entire game, mash A to win >barebones and basic >Digimon World 3 >fun premise>amazing visuals>amazing music>fun and interesting story, original for its time (one of the first isekai stories in games and done really well)>painfully boring gameplay that's intolerable without emulator speedup >actual challenge here and there in the form of bosses and fuck-you puzzles like 8lue card or the desert >lots of cool little things and soulful touches to discover But Pokemon games are revered as eternal classics yet DW3 is some rough gem that's unplayable without an emulator, it really bugs me that it never got a fraction of the recognition despite being a much better game
>>732285381THERE IT IS
