it's so f*cking good. how did they do it? how does a mid series get a game this good.
They found how out to balance gameplay vs. story for the one entry after 11 games.
>>732282046they literally combined everything good about the other ones and dial back the shit that didn't work(6 protags and shit). the style switching is genius. the heat actions are extra brutal.
>hey lets make the side activities fun, the town easy to navigate, and the combat simple>let's also focus on making the main characters interesting and likeable Then they forgor how to do all of that again
Kys Yakuza0 fag
>>732282046Literally 10 years worth of experience, trial and error, culminating into one huge passion project meant to celebrate the series tenth anniversary.Once you play the OG Yakuza 1-5, you will notice that there's barely a single original idea or even mechanic in the game. But that's just it: games are more than their individual cogs and bobs. It helps that the story of Y0 is honestly damn well done and interesting. Again, it helps that the game is a prequel, meaning they could cut off a lot of fat that had plagued the series for years (ie. Haruka).Which is why it's EXTRA sad to see SEGA fuck the whole thing up with the terrible "Director's Cut" version, that rapes the mood and plot with its idiotic additions.
>>732282046When the remakes started, I gave them a chance. I've played all the games now, and I don't understand how they can't capture the same essence. At least Lost Judgment is good. And I'll say it again, fuck the RPG system
>>732283160what i ahte about the RPG system is they reuse a lot of the mechanics they added in it in the brawler games. utter shit.
The RGG team was allowed to iterate and learn for 15 years. Most studios are not so fortunate because if a first attempt from a new studio doesn’t turn the world upside down, everyone gets fired. RGG toiled in their series consistently and did well in Japan and maintained niche interest in the west and then they made a game that hit big with an international audience, and they are still riding that wave. They’re incredibly productive too, and are very intelligent at reusing baseline concepts and assets to cut the fat out of developing new mainline and spinoff games. So if you like Judgement or Y7 or Y0 or Kiwami 2, the chances you'll have fun in anything else they do is very high. On the contrary though if you don't care for one of these games you can probably write off their entire output. Nothing has struck me like lightning in the way that 0 did but that's because 0 was basically a completely fresh experience for me because prior to that I think I had played only minutes of like, Y3 or Y4. But I have enjoyed K1 and K2 and Y7 enough to see all of them though. It does take me a long time to play these games though because I feel like it's hard to have a meaningful session in under 90 minutes, especially in the RPG entries.
