What do you dislike about this game?
>>
shitty pc port
the camera controls are total ass
>>
>>732284426
it would crash on nvidea cards at launch when doing that stupid light puzzle
>>
>>732284426
i never played it but the HIRE THIS MAN vibes. Seems like a good base to build off of though.
>>
That fucking puzzle on the first island.

Open world is pic related and levels are made entirely of recycled assets and block primitives. Sonic needs compelling environments to run around in, which is something provided by almost every game prior.
>>
>>732284426
I tried it the other day and found it intensely boring
>>
Forced 2D sections in an open world environment, floating trick objects disrupting environmental cohesion in the name of just providing arbitrary platforming challenges, inconsistent physics between open world and Cyberspace stages, and unnecessary-but-shallow combat mechanics.

That's about it.
>>
>>732284426
Story and its aimless design.
>>
>>732284426
The 4th Island being the way it was.
Should have been like Island 1-3, with its own separate biome and boss.
>>
looks like shit, rushed, unreal engine soulless trash. didn't play it, you could pay me to play a game that looks like this
>>
the goddamn pop-in
They could've at least added a shitty free stock materialization effect from the asset store.
>>
>>732284426
It tries to be melancholic and "mature" story, but it feels unearned. Speaking of unearned, I don't think Dad Eggman makes sense.
>>
The levels are too short.
The world feels dreary, empty, and desaturated. It's not a world I want to explore.
The high bar of 3D Sonic games is Adventure 1 for me. That game is fun to explore because it's colorful, vibrant, upbeat, and has a good amount of variety and detail. I want them to stop making sad grey open world games and make a successor to SA1.
>>
It's just full, I like sage and she sucks in this game
Is there a reason they actually can't make sonic adventure 3?
>>
>>732284426
The story is crap and overall the game is just boring and repetitive.
First island is novel enough, second one is fine I guess. Third island is abysmal and by that point I can't pretend to give a fuck

>empty, generic open world with zero charm or appeal
>horrible grab-bag of reheated 20-year-old boost2win special stages
>embarrassingly poor graphics and presentation, looks worse than Unleashed (a game released 14 years prior)
>shit generic synthwave music AND shit generic orchestral music (this is what Sonic music is now for some reason)
>meaningless story that reveals nothing of note or interest and retcons the most interesting element of SA1
>idiotically-earnest character writing with zero subtlety and all the worst elements of Flynn writing combined, completely out of place for this franchise
>unforgivably-bad boss fights, especially the last one
>enemy interactions are way too prolonged, making every encounter seem like a shitty DMC fight
>meaningless skill tree system that you'll max out by the end of world 1
>terrible optimization on anything except nogamestation 5, performance is poppy and choppy on all other platforms
>SAGE looks like a retarded elf baby and has the most generic personality imaginable
>intolerable mandatory puzzle/pinball segments that go on for way too long
>the only defence anyone can make about it is "Yeah, but the next one might be good!"
No aspect of Frontiers is FUN. You know, FUN? Like a Sonic game? Where did the fucking FUN go? Because it seems to have been absent from this franchise for at least a decade and a half.

I'm not strictly opposed to the idea of a open world sonic game. This is the wrong way to approach it. Sunset Overdrive is what a open world sonic game should play like. Whatever this is, I kind of hate it. You have random linear activities dotted everywhere on the map. In other sonic games if you fall off the obstacle course you die. Here you don't die instead you are forced to trek back to beginning of the challenge. Sometimes it is not a short travel time back to beginning either. You were griding on the rail in the sky over a chasm you have to trek half way across the map to find that one bridge. So it gets tedious and frustrating. Sonic's movement is relative to the camera. doesn't sound like a problem on paper. When the camera is so spastic it feels like randomly lose control over sonic unless you anticipate the camera change you'll fling yourself in the wrong direction. I had the camera spin 180 degrees behind wall where I couldn't even see sonic. It made climbing a green wall basically impossible. I don't know if it is pc port problem but Sonic's momentum occasional breaks and literally stop in place and can't move if you're in the air when it happens you fall straight down.

I wrote a portion of the shit I thought sucked about the game, just incase I remember the game fondly. It mostly boils down to bloat with no real good gameplay. The only genuine enjoyment I had was oddly collecting the 1 billion different collectables while listening to Escape From the City and Live and Learn, which you get at the god damn end for some reason

>Forced 2D sections in an open world environment,
When I played the game, there was this one part where I landed in one of these segments in a weird way and the 2D perspective failed to load properly, so I got to do it in 3D. It was unimaginably more fun and interesting. Why do they even bother with this crap?

They think that people like 2D Sonic gameplay because it's 2D, not realizing that some of the series' worst efforts were 3D so people were clamoring for 2D gameplay just so they'd have something simpler to build around without making it suck...
>>
>>732284426
>Spindash, the most fun mechanic in the game, is only available on the last island or new game+
>they only even added it because fans screamed at them to
WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!?
>>
>>732284426
it’s shit
>>
>>732284426
I dislike the continued use of Sonic Forces gameplay. It's just so stiff compared to Unleashed/Generation. It's hard to believe Sonic Team lost the source code.

The Cyber levels being the worst part of the game. Some are fine, some are bad.

That one bingo game thats required to advance the story.

I like the driving motivation behind the combat in the game (taking inspiration from the way movie Sonic fights) but I don't think it should have been a "mechanic", exactly. Just making the more standard Sonic homing attack gameplay more dynamic (like by having Sonic be more animated while attacking and perhaps adding some ways to rebound around the environment quickly rather than trying to capture that feeling by giving Sonic a whole moveset that don't have defined functions).

Awful pop-in. PC can mod it out to an extent, but it doesn't fully fix the problem and introduces other problems.
No button to recenter the camera.
BotW tier "puzzles"/"challenges" that don't require thought and only exist to waste time.
Cyber Space stages could've had far more visual variety and the physics change is jarring.
Amy's characterization gave me whiplash. I handwaved it as the characters "growing up" and assumed I missed a game that set up getting over her Sonic obsession, but if there wasn't one Ian's a hack.
Nearly all of The Final Horizon's new content sucked, but harder platforming for Sonic, the other characters are busted and challenges not being ultra lenient were welcome.
Overall I still liked it more than most Sonic games. Lots of platforming and going fast, and any interruptions to that are brief or optional, unlike most of the rest of the series.

One of the worst final bosses of all time. Pick either version, they both suck
>>
>>732284426
I looked that it's open world and canceled my humble choice.

People don't talk about this enough. The fact that (at least in the base game) the last thing you do in what is ostensibly a platforming game is play a fucking Ikaruga level is just so stupid.

The music is excellent too, I really love the idea of the bosses having intense rock only for the final boss to get a more somber theme. But either way you get a final boss that you can win by spamming color swaps or the fucking awful plug boss that dies in 2 seconds when you realize whats going on

>Hey guys we brought back Big and fishing

Oh that's cool. So it utilizes the open world by encouraging you to find and fish in water sources all over the map at different times of the day so you can really appreciate the open world right?

>It's just a gachapon pond in a fixed area that lets you skip the game's abysmal ass content

Thanks big.

>>
It started off ok but by the third island i was really sick of it. I tried to pick it up again when they added the character dlc and it felt even worse then i remembered.

How the fuck is bomberman r 2 a better open world game then sonic.
>>
>>732284426
It takes itself to serious.
>>
>>732284426
Cyberspace being pretty damn short, and its reuse of assets. Wish they'd move on from 2D Sonic and actually design interesting new stage backdrops and themes.
>>
truthfully the game is pretty mediocre and shallow but i got it pretty cheap and kellin quinn carried the game so it balances out
>>
>>732292065
what you don't like the purple moon with ikaruga gameplay but shitty?
>>

>bomberman r 2 a better open world
that game was open world? I only played the first one wich was just another super bomberman
