>>732291230I like RTS but that's too much autism.CoH did the same. Completed the tutorial missions, had fun with the non-retarded aspect of it, and shelved it forever.
>>732291230Don't Warcraft 3 and Spellforce also do this?
>>732291230That game is more realtime tactics than startegy, you don't build units and only have a very limited number per mission. Also direct control of units with manual aiming and stuff
>>732291230Its called Kenshi, and its amazing
>>732291473Never played Spellforce but Warcraft 3 lets your heroes have 6 items each.
i got the men of war complete collection for like 10 bucks on steam a few years ago but i never play any of it
>>732291230Warlords Battlecry?
>>732291818I did the same. Truly incredible value if you get into the series.
>>732291230
>>732293060That tank was so little.
>>732291708I wish I could get into kenshi, it seems fun
>>732291230This is RTT
Commandos counts as RTS right?
>>732294728Nope
Jagged alliance 3 plays like a crpg compared to the older games
>>732291473Yeah but Spellforce is more simple and less fun in that regard as you can only control the movement of MC, while in Men of War you can literally play any character or any tank as if it's twin stick shooter, not to mention that you can drive and blow up practically anything. Man, I had so much fun with this game back in the days.
Slightly off-topic but I noticed that Eastern European seem to really like military RTS games.Lots of World War 2 and modern combat games seem to come from that region.
>>732291230YOOOOOOOOsoldiers: heroes of world war 2! I had this game when i was 6, shit was mad good for its time"A man can die but once!"Weird game design choice where they let you manually aim by holding ctrl which completely defeated the purpose of just clicking on the enemy. Manually aiming made it so you could shoot a lot further. Man i remember maining only 1 char and cleaning whole maps methodically. Peak comfy
>>732295423>part of the world that experienced two fuckhuge wars recently are into war gamesTruly mysterious
>>732295423It makes sense considering how steeped into their culture ww2 is. It was literally a war of apocalyptic proportion to save themselves from completely genocide lol. Russia still celebrates the day they won every year with big parades and shit
>>732295597Oh also, iirc the best small arms weapon is the mg you can grab from a tank. Iirc i mained the m2 browning. Absolutely demolished everyone
>>732295669I'm told it should be the other way around since war is le bad
>turret toss olympics gold medalistalso I like how they've been making literally the same game for 20 years now, still using the same decrepit ass gem engine, even
>>732295879You gotta understand. Eastern europe is a shithole. Which is why they have their own brand of jingoism and shit with a shitton of people living in backwater areas and shit. Making them love their country over winning a huge world war is a massive prestige thing for them since they barely have anything to be proud of lol. Also, classic fallout is a staple there because they relate to the misery
>>732296079I LIKE THE DEATHI LIKE THE MISERYI LIKE THIS WORLD
>>732291230>>732291579They really have been rehashing the same game for decades haven't they? Every men of war game looks the exact same. I think those animations are the same ones they use today.
>>732296465There's only 3 no? Soldiers: heroes of ww2 is the prototype men of war game. Then MoW1 then 2 and that's kinda it right? Last time MoW was relevant on vee was like 10 years ago
>>732296764As far as mainline games, sure. But there are heaps of spinoffs, and there are assault squad 1 &. 2, and Call to Arms - Gates of Hell, which is the most recent iteration of the formula but by a different studio.
>>732296764>Soldiers: Heroes of World War II>Faces of War>Men of War>Men of War: Red Tide>Men of War: Assault Squad>Men of War: Vietnam>Men of War: Condemned Heroes>Men of War: Assault Squad 2>Assault Squad 2: Men of War Origins>Men of War II: Arena>Men of War: Assault Squad 2 - Cold War>Call to Arms>Call to Arms: Gates of Hell: Ostfront>Men of War II
>>732296764It's a long list.
>>732296914>>732296989>>732297031Lmao wtf. Do they live up to the hype?
>>732294728stealth RTT
>>732296465yeah, the game is fun though, just get Gates of Hell
Ill throw out war wind into the list because i have some nostalgia for it.
>>732296252Lmfao where did you come from with that reference?
>>732297357Aaaah commandos. A pillar of my childhood. No idea how people beat the first one. Super uncomfy hotkey layout, everyone had their own hotkeys and 0 pause. Talk about a prototype game
>men of war clone but not made in the gem enginekinda looks like shit desuhttps://store.steampowered.com/app/3581910/Victory_Banner/
>>732298092save scumming
>>732291401You uhh didn't have to manage inventory in CoH at all. You either upgrade weapons with your resources or dont or you pick up weapons off the ground its not like managing an inventory at all lol
>>732298138Yeah i know. That whole genre is savescumming every 5 secs. I just meant having no pause button for that genre is hardcore as fuck
>>732291401Tf you on? CoH is a normal rts? You micro units like any other rts with every unit having their own unique abilities along with upgradable kits which in a lot cases, atleast for infantry, changes their roles
there are some that i know with inventory and equips but management like resident evil or diablo? that's very specific
>>732299625What? Are you asking for game recs?
>>732291230I miss Men of War so much bros. What they did to MoW2 was a fucking crime.
>>732299718no
>>732297197Not really, everything past Assault Squad has been mediocre to dogshit. AS2 was alrightish at times in my memory, I guess?
surprised no one said warlords battlecry, i guess its too old for some people
>>732298178>>732298396He's obviously confusing it with MoW.
>>732298109>that depth of fieldwhat the fuck
>>732297326why does it look worse than >>732291579Only played soldiers, and it was really good. One of the first games I played
>>732291230You will play Silent Storm Sentinels now
>>732293060What game?
>>732291708I will never stop praising that game
well you can sell the items so i guess there's a little bit of "management"
>>732300076Waiting for warlockracy's vid on them instead
>>732300076I'd kill a man for a modern successor.Or at least something with the same level of environmental destruction.
>>732299905>won an award for best game nobody played when it came outI think ppl will mention Spellforce before this game.
>>732300076Is there a fan patch or something?Last time I played I had to turn down shadows to minimum or it would crash constantly.
>>732300810holy shit lmao, never knew that
>>732300894I dont think I experienced crashes, and I played this game on my old laptop and an AMD apu computer
>>732301036>old laptopWell that may be why you didn't have crashes, older games tend to cause more porblems on band new hardware.
>>732301128Anon just try the game and see if it works
>>732301419Bro I just told you that I have played it and it crashed regularly.
>>732300076is this like 762 high calibre?
>>732301419these old games normally play pretty well on linux since the old windows emulation is way better than the support that w10/11 have.I would test it, but I am way too lazy to do it now, sorry bro.
>>732291230Reminds me of Soldiers of AnarchyI loved that shit even though it was hard as balls
>>732291473Correct me if i'm wrong. But isn't the spellforce franchise basically the spiritual successor to warcraft 3?
Bymp
>>732299812So wth were you trying to say?
I have finished the Soviet and British campaigns in Soldiers: Heroes of World War 2.There are two things that I have discovered:1. Machine guns are really powerful2. Armoured vehicles are almost indomitable
>>732300076I should continue my playthrough.
>>732302360Spellforce is more about inflating stats with your items on your hero units as you mass blobs of units. Warcraft 3 is much more micro-intensive and has a more developed meta with its heroes. I wouldn't say they're quite the same.
>>732303992I meant in the sense of you control a hero/heroes with unique abilities which you can gear while also at the same time have normal mook units you control
why no women of war?
>>732291230Kenshi?
>>732291230Fallout TacticsX-Com Apocalypse
>>732291230Terminator Dark Fate Defiance
>>732291230Bump
Have any of you guys tried Men of War 2? It is the only one I don't have and that is because it has bad Steam reviews.
>>732305058I was surprised how much I liked the game, but inventory management? Where? You can equip like 1 item per unit, and only on the campaign map, as the in battle pickup is pretty fucked. Also what were they thinking stacking 200 cartel missions in a terminator game?
Sumå
>>732303713just that op wanted a very specific kind of games, nothing more nothing less
There was a game called Conquest: Frontier Wars that might have something you might find interesting or at least get where I am coming from on my train of thought. All the ships and turrets have ammo, but unless they are in the radius of a supply building or unit then those units will not reload their ammo. Once it is out, the ship can not attack. You can build supply ships that can carry a shit ton of ammo and replenish other ships, but the supply ships have their own reserves as well, so once those supply ships run out they are useless. It's actually on GOG for a few bucks. The rest I thought was pretty interesting as well. The map is separated in to smaller segments and you have to use worm holes to go between them. It's a very unique RTS, I suggest checking it out though.
It's not that similar to other games in this thread, but try the demo for Frontline Logistics: Isarian Warfare. RTS focused on making sure your soldiers have food in their bellies and bullets in their guns.
>>732297197Gates of Hell is good but it's literally just another iteration of the same thing. No massive leaps in improvements or innovations. It feels like a somewhat heavily modded Men of War.
>>732308523What jumps did it make, if any? Also is the setting still ww2?
>>732297197Faces of War was INSANELY underrated and is the real Men of War 1. You can just download their campaigns luckily as mods for other MoW games
>>732309383Why is it good?
>>732293060This kinda reminds me of full spectrum warrior or that one tactical ghost recon game on the psp in a weird way.
>>732291230You have to understand that Soldiers: Heroes of World War 2 and the rest of the games in the series have quite different philosophies in their game design. S:HWW2 is a game about controlling a very limited amount of units usually conducting operations behind enemy lines hence the title in Russian - Behind Enemy Lines. There inventory management and manual control of units is justified and does not cause problems. However, with each new installment the devs increased the scale of battles until in MOWAS it just became CoH with funky mechanics and inventory management became redundant. And yet it is still miles better than CoH
>>732291230If you could get a jpg of aspergers this would be it
>>732308839Yeah still WW2, focus of the base game is the eastern front with DLC adding western front USA/Commonwealth and even Finnish and western-German factions. It's the same basic thing as Men of War, mainly with graphical improvements, first-person direct control and just general slight improvements all over the place.
>>732310475Wait, a first person mode in a men of war game?
Bmp
>>732292119>>732297326I really want to love Call To Arms but the developers are super gay and the game ends up being worse than Men of War even considering the age of the game.
>>732311496No but it had the direct control stuff. GoH adds a toggle-able 1st & 3rd person direct control mode in addition to the standard free-camera one. This video gives a good overview of the game.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFsCtO5yhXw
>>732314316What's worse about it?
>>732310261in Gates of hell they maintain the inventory management, but streamlined it a lot, you can select multiple units and open a container and transfer ammo, mines etc to all of them with a single click.
>>732315390Balance is just garbage. DLC factions are just absurdly overpowered. Are Finns still the strongest faction in the game for no fucking reason?
>>732315501Finns are the strongest race irl so it makes sense
>>732300641>Having hard battle up ahead>Thinking it would be easy if I just swap some items on the heros/lords>"Fuck it">Take heroic defeat auto resolve>Everyone dies
>>732315560>Finns are the strongest race irl>Lost twice in the span of like 10 yearsThat's beside the point, but on the release of that DLC Finnish shells and equipment stolen from the Soviets were better than the same equipment and shells used by the Soviets. I'm not sure if they fixed it or not, but it was comically P2W.
>>732315501I only play compstomp with my friends and dynamic campaigns, what makes them so strong? I thought they were weak becaue they don't have as much stuff.
>>732315912Here >>732315874All of their equipment duplicated from other factions is simply better for no reason. Their infantry is also very good and cheap. It's just stat bloat faction.
