I like RTS but that's too much autism.
CoH did the same. Completed the tutorial missions, had fun with the non-retarded aspect of it, and shelved it forever.
>>
>>732291230
Don't Warcraft 3 and Spellforce also do this?
>>
>>732291230
That game is more realtime tactics than startegy, you don't build units and only have a very limited number per mission. Also direct control of units with manual aiming and stuff

Commandos counts as RTS right?
>>
>>732294728
Nope
>>
Jagged alliance 3 plays like a crpg compared to the older games
>>
>>732291473

Yeah but Spellforce is more simple and less fun in that regard as you can only control the movement of MC, while in Men of War you can literally play any character or any tank as if it's twin stick shooter, not to mention that you can drive and blow up practically anything. Man, I had so much fun with this game back in the days.
>>
Slightly off-topic but I noticed that Eastern European seem to really like military RTS games.
Lots of World War 2 and modern combat games seem to come from that region.
>>
>>732291230
YOOOOOOOO
soldiers: heroes of world war 2! I had this game when i was 6, shit was mad good for its time
"A man can die but once!"
Weird game design choice where they let you manually aim by holding ctrl which completely defeated the purpose of just clicking on the enemy. Manually aiming made it so you could shoot a lot further. Man i remember maining only 1 char and cleaning whole maps methodically. Peak comfy

You gotta understand. Eastern europe is a shithole. Which is why they have their own brand of jingoism and shit with a shitton of people living in backwater areas and shit. Making them love their country over winning a huge world war is a massive prestige thing for them since they barely have anything to be proud of lol. Also, classic fallout is a staple there because they relate to the misery

>>
>>732296465
There's only 3 no? Soldiers: heroes of ww2 is the prototype men of war game. Then MoW1 then 2 and that's kinda it right? Last time MoW was relevant on vee was like 10 years ago
>>
>>732296764
As far as mainline games, sure.
But there are heaps of spinoffs, and there are assault squad 1 &. 2, and Call to Arms - Gates of Hell, which is the most recent iteration of the formula but by a different studio.

save scumming

>>732291401
You uhh didn't have to manage inventory in CoH at all. You either upgrade weapons with your resources or dont or you pick up weapons off the ground its not like managing an inventory at all lol

Yeah i know. That whole genre is savescumming every 5 secs. I just meant having no pause button for that genre is hardcore as fuck
>>
>>732291401
Tf you on? CoH is a normal rts? You micro units like any other rts with every unit having their own unique abilities along with upgradable kits which in a lot cases, atleast for infantry, changes their roles

Spellforce is more about inflating stats with your items on your hero units as you mass blobs of units. Warcraft 3 is much more micro-intensive and has a more developed meta with its heroes. I wouldn't say they're quite the same.
>>
>>732303992
I meant in the sense of you control a hero/heroes with unique abilities which you can gear while also at the same time have normal mook units you control

>>
>>732305058
I was surprised how much I liked the game, but inventory management? Where? You can equip like 1 item per unit, and only on the campaign map, as the in battle pickup is pretty fucked.
Also what were they thinking stacking 200 cartel missions in a terminator game?

There was a game called Conquest: Frontier Wars that might have something you might find interesting or at least get where I am coming from on my train of thought.

All the ships and turrets have ammo, but unless they are in the radius of a supply building or unit then those units will not reload their ammo. Once it is out, the ship can not attack. You can build supply ships that can carry a shit ton of ammo and replenish other ships, but the supply ships have their own reserves as well, so once those supply ships run out they are useless.

It's actually on GOG for a few bucks. The rest I thought was pretty interesting as well. The map is separated in to smaller segments and you have to use worm holes to go between them. It's a very unique RTS, I suggest checking it out though.
>>
It's not that similar to other games in this thread, but try the demo for Frontline Logistics: Isarian Warfare. RTS focused on making sure your soldiers have food in their bellies and bullets in their guns.
>>
>>732297197
Gates of Hell is good but it's literally just another iteration of the same thing. No massive leaps in improvements or innovations. It feels like a somewhat heavily modded Men of War.
>>
>>732308523
What jumps did it make, if any? Also is the setting still ww2?
>>
>>732297197
Faces of War was INSANELY underrated and is the real Men of War 1. You can just download their campaigns luckily as mods for other MoW games
>>
>>732309383
Why is it good?
>>
>>732293060
This kinda reminds me of full spectrum warrior or that one tactical ghost recon game on the psp in a weird way.
>>
>>732291230
You have to understand that Soldiers: Heroes of World War 2 and the rest of the games in the series have quite different philosophies in their game design. S:HWW2 is a game about controlling a very limited amount of units usually conducting operations behind enemy lines hence the title in Russian - Behind Enemy Lines. There inventory management and manual control of units is justified and does not cause problems. However, with each new installment the devs increased the scale of battles until in MOWAS it just became CoH with funky mechanics and inventory management became redundant. And yet it is still miles better than CoH
>>
>>732291230
If you could get a jpg of aspergers this would be it
>>
>>732308839
Yeah still WW2, focus of the base game is the eastern front with DLC adding western front USA/Commonwealth and even Finnish and western-German factions. It's the same basic thing as Men of War, mainly with graphical improvements, first-person direct control and just general slight improvements all over the place.
>>
>>732310475
Wait, a first person mode in a men of war game?
>>
Bmp
>>
>>732292119
>>732297326
I really want to love Call To Arms but the developers are super gay and the game ends up being worse than Men of War even considering the age of the game.
>>
>>732311496
No but it had the direct control stuff. GoH adds a toggle-able 1st & 3rd person direct control mode in addition to the standard free-camera one.

This video gives a good overview of the game.

in Gates of hell they maintain the inventory management, but streamlined it a lot, you can select multiple units and open a container and transfer ammo, mines etc to all of them with a single click.
>>
>>732315390
Balance is just garbage. DLC factions are just absurdly overpowered. Are Finns still the strongest faction in the game for no fucking reason?

That's beside the point, but on the release of that DLC Finnish shells and equipment stolen from the Soviets were better than the same equipment and shells used by the Soviets. I'm not sure if they fixed it or not, but it was comically P2W.

All of their equipment duplicated from other factions is simply better for no reason. Their infantry is also very good and cheap. It's just stat bloat faction.
