why does this keep happening
who was it this time?
>>732303647They try too hard. Shoving random IP characters into shitty party battle mechanics is old hat.
>>732303647Tendies don't play bootleg games, anon. It's a non-existent audience
>>732303838if only the warner bros one wasnt just pay to win grindshit maybe it would have found some niche
Rosterfags hype up smash clones but they inevitably die because no one actually gives a shit about the game and wants to play it.
>>732303647The only smash competitors that work are ones with unique rosters, and even then, they don't see especially widespread appeal. The ones that try exploiting company IPs die for the reasons that this anon >>732303938 outlined.
>>732303647A tranny does what a tranny does...
>>732303647Without video game nostalgia, Smash is nothing.
>>732303647Nintendo already had a roster like Looney Tunes or Disney with a half dozen popular and recognizable mascots. Who gives a fuck about being fucking Kratos and beating up the whore from Last of Us, no one knows who these guys are + Nintendo already designed these characters around stupid party mechanics like mushrooms and gokarts and bombs and dumb cartoon shit so that all worked out too while others have random settings that are all over the place.
>>732303647All they have to do is make an actual game instead of some e-sport shit for autists but indies are just unable to create anything but terrible clones of better games made by pros.
>>732303938>>732304290Super Smash was also a game made for the sake of being an entertaining game unto itself whereas all these others set out to make something like smash but with their brand, so obviously it’s soulless slop every time.
Fun times.
>>732303647Smash has Nintendo bonus, huge roster full of guest characters and potential as a party game.
>>732303675Melee
>>732303647>competitorsSmash has never had a competitor. There will always be grifterslop alternatives marketed as such for low IQ individuals.
>>732305292>shill discord gets leaked>fishposting stops>the guy who leaked kept beating the dead horse until some tranny edating drama came out>game long forgotten and that leaker guy kept shitting on it for months
>>732303647Multiversus actually would been a solid contender if it wasn't for shitty mismanagement and predatory monetization.
>>732305896Was this the Nickelodeon game or what, I tapped out early
>>732303647In a sort of bizarro twist of one of standard fighting games' strengths, that being appealing character design, the platform fighter genre is a paragon of awful character design, although admitedly a bit of slack & good faith must be had, since it's very hard for modern western character designers to have true freedom in that area. Still, from the vomit inducing E-sports TM looks of Icons and its sequel, to the general furfaggotry fest (The damage Fox has done to the genre as a whole, from creatively bankrupt movesets to general character design direction, can't be understated. Shine will never be a DP or a fireball and the more forced inclusions it gets the more obnoxious it gets).
>>732306690gem
smash is about the IPs not the gameplaynobody is loyal to the genre. the entire thing would evaporate if they stopped making smash games.
>>732303647STOPCOPYINGMELEEMELEESUCKSASSANDMELEETURDSONLYPLAYMELEEONLINE AND TRAINING ARE NOT CONTENTADD FUCKING REAL CONTENTSINGLEPLAYERFUN MODES
>>732307102the only people who want to make smash clones are meleeturds themselves, and they have no concept of fun and whimsy to make things like fun side modes or singleplayer/story modes
>>732306690This as soon as they added splatoon and Fortnite and Minecraft and everything else. I don’t even recognize half the smash roster anymore.
>>732307221that's just because half the roster are literal who anime swordsmans from fire emblem
>>732303890multiversus is insane because it was actually decent and doing well before they took it offline for like a year, and it somehow came back way fucking worse. I don't know what the fuck happened with the devs over there
>>732303647lancer deltarune if kurt cobain
>>732306690This will be Smash 6, I guarantee it.>Switch 2>less characters>lame title>slowerAnd that's if it even releases
>>732303647Stupidity and poverty explaining the lack of polish
>>732307173Need to find autists obsessed enough to do a smash clone but bad enough to fail at copying melees shit mechanics and also liking all the content enough to copy it and create their own new fun modes.
Why does Melee trigger autismos here so much?
>>732303647nobody actually cares for the mechanics of the gamepeople just want to fight as their hecking favorite nintendo characters
>>732303647Because the clones are too videogame focused, which is the first time I ever had to think negatively of such a thing.Smash is good because it's a fun party game and a great fighter with unique property if you try hard, but what brings people in is the potential for soulful, fun crossovers and interactions between characters of different universes and cool shit like break the targets. Samus and Pikachu still get fanarts today for instanceI think that if some popular devs from the indie sphere collaborated to make a smash clone featuring characters with good and easy recognizable designs like Hollow Knight, Undertale, among us, roblox stuff, Touhou, Helltaker etc it could be a huge success.
>>732303647They are all comically bootleggy. Nothing about them looks, sounds, or feels right. That’s enough to keep all of them from succeeding, but the roster either having no cohesion or no recognizable characters would also be enough of its own to make them fail even if they were otherwise perfect.Smash just has the magical perfect balance. It’s why it manages to stay afloat despite the multitude of problems in the community and the games themselves.I wouldn’t be surprised if a non compete is part of the contract for adding a third party character.
Nintendo's branch of autists are a special breed. They're not the kind of people that, when they're starved for a kind of game, they'll pay money for inspirations and successors. Basically, they don't want y, inspired by x, they want more of x.t. wish there were more games expanding upon Power Stone and the japanese cartoon arena fighters.
>>732308097I guess there's also a bit of this. If I wanted to be pragmatic and could do with the usual affair of mods/romhacks, i've already got a very big can of worms. Smash Remix, Brawl and its insane amount of content from Brawl- to REX to P+, Smash Flash 2, Smash Crusade and its modding scene (CMC+ and another mod I forgot the name of), and Rivals 1's workshop basically becomes Smash Mugen. These are all more or less lowkey titles but combined, anyone who wants to play more Smash Bros has their hands decently full. It's not SM64 levels where you can sustain yourself with only that, but it's close enough.
>>732303647Each one finds a fun new way to fail, which is pretty interesting imo.>PSASBRFucked with the gameplay formula (you can only get KOs via supers that are balanced like ass) and the roster was unbelievably shit considering what you could pull in for that game. I know Sony didn't own the IPs, but releasing a Playstation Smash game without Crash or Spyro is straight up heresy.>NASBGive the devs of the game a budget of about $3.50 to make it. Nick Smash turns out to be cheap, jank shit that tanks the idea. Sequel was actually a massive improvement and probably the best crack at making a proper Smash competitor, but the concept had already been so tainted by the first game that nobody wanted to touch it.>MultiversusJust straight up greed and giving your game director too much power. Also it doesn't help when you let people pay for your MTX bullshit for a while and then pull the game for over a year, only to bring it back with changes that make everything worse.>IndiesLiteral who or shit design cast and an bsession with capturing that comp Melee crowd that will never actually play your game despite them hyping every release up as the real "Smash Killer" for sure this time.
>>732303647Lol.
>>732308089>despite the multitude of problems in the community and the games themselvesAlso the problems that Smashfags online complain about literally don't even register in the minds of the average person buying that game.
