what killed rts?
>>
noobs
theyll be here in 5 minutes to proclaim that rts were always about turtling until max tech and unit cap and only then are you allowed to play

Deterioration of attention spans.

They're unironically too hard for casuals, and they don't play well on consoles.

That's why RTS games died. I played dozens of RTS games like that as a kid and when they stopped making them like that is when I stopped buying them so they went out of business. Only gooks like high apm clickfests.

>they died cause i refused to learn how to play

CnC4
The RTS Golden Age was largely a competition between Westwood and Blizzard. With CnC dead, Blizzard stopped trying and so did everyone else because the market died.

Pretty much.
When I play RTS, I'm playing pretend with toy soldiers, knocking over the bad guy's sandcastles, and making up stories in my head. D.O.R.F. looks like the only RTS in years to have some soul. Hope it turns out well.

If pros play RTS competitively and sweat over it, that's fine. I'm impressed. Gotta be good at the game for the plays they pull off. But they may as well be playing a different game.

They were never as big as people think they were. They were just a vehicle to play other kinds of games like tower defence, MOBA, RP shit, whatever nonsense that people use roblox for nowadays. Also just as a means of experiencing a campaign story that people would've enjoyed regardless of the game genre.

Anybody have experience with the Mac PowerPC version of Zero Hour? Always had some trouble running it on modern systems but I recently picked up an iMac G5 for practically nothing and it's technically period-correct hardware for Generals.

I'm assuming it's a straight port that works identically to the unpatched Windows version but there's so little documentation online I'd like to be sure.

rts on a competitive level fundamentally is not fun. Economy is mostly a memorized checklist and it becomes a game of paying attention to the right things at the right time vs any actual strategy.
>>
>>732309762
Multiplayer. People would just play Age of Empires and Starcraft and nothing else.

this is also what happened to pvp overall. Either they're trying to ape fortnites live service sloppa model or they're trying to be an esport and it kills any fun. Constant balance patches, forced metas, killing any casual gamers enthusiasm. And on the other side of the coin excessive consumerism and a lack of any real depth.

Time. RTS was peak in the 90's and 00's because they were cheaper to make and could run on worse hardware. It's for the better anyways, because now you have more specialized RTS games rather than a thousand AoE or C&C clones.
