Steam has been around for like 25 years and is extremely feature rich
the more important point though is not that it's just feature rich, but that all of those features have had 20+ years of refinements and tweaks to make them as good as they can be for the user, and when Epic still doesn't have 1/10th of the features Steam has you know that once they start to copy them all of their features are going to be halfassed and shit compared to Steam

""""migrating""""...??
If they actually try to make the service worth using then that's nice, but it's not as if I'm going to delete my Steam account with hundreds of games just because another thing got less awful. And yes, I already have hundreds of (free) games on Epic Games Store too. I don't have to pick one.
I'm probably going to continue spending more money on Steam just because the unbeatable Linux support makes it more convenient, but I also use Itch.io and GOG. There's no "migrating".
>>
>>732316384
No, the real reason is that Steam has a network effect going on. Steam has to royally fuck up for anybody else to even have a chance to compete. Look at Windows vs Linux. One of these is completely free and a more stable operating system, yet people keep using Windows.

In a windows vs linux comparison, this is the reason and perhaps always will be. Certainly for the forseeable future at least. The average user doesn't know how to install an operating system to begin with. It comes pre-installed on their prebuilt/laptop. Asking them to ditch windows and install linux is a near-impossible ask right out the gate, before you even get to what you actually use the computer to do.
It's always crazy to me how many linuxfags don't understand this.

EGS started by trying to cut the consumer out of the equation with loss leading tactics and force people to go to there instead of other marketplaces, a monopolistic practise which has always resulted in a massive hike once the market position is secure.

When a game is exclusive to steam, that's almost always the dev/publisher's choice, unless there's some obscure technical reason it'll only work with steam's infrastructure. Literally done for free despite the fact steam will let them sell elsewhere if they want.
Meanwhile Timmy throws money at people to shut out all other storefronts for 1-2 years. And hilariously, people still would rather wait to get the game somewhere else.
>>
>>732330985
>steam will let them sell elsewhere if they want
Or do they? The whole courtcase is basically about this. Valve demands that the game is most readily available (and cheapest) on Steam, "or else".
>>
>>732315290
>"It should start to feel good, be faster and people be like, 'Holy shit. It doesn't suck so much.' And that will be a win for us."
KEK the problem isn't that you wait a bit long interacting with your pathetic excuse for a store Timmy. Even if you had the fastest responsiveness ever achieved that doesn't change all the other glaring issues you have. He gets more retarded by the day it's insane.
Your store will NEVER be more than Fortnite Hub and free games central and it warms my heart.

Are these some sort of keyselling sites? Or what? Most of them have "Steam" marked underneath. So they are not actually different stores/platforms?

GreenManGaming is the only one I've used, and they simply just sell Steam games.

The question is: would Steam allow someone to sell a game on their own platform AND on Steam - but with different pricing points? (To circumvent the 30% cut that Valve takes.) The answer seems to be "no".
>>
>>732315290
Epic Store will not be able to survive unless it gets a healthy number of migrants and refugees from Steam. It's necessary for the growth of the Epic Store to recieve migrants so the pyramid scheme system doesn't collapse and the inhabitants of the Epic Store have to get used to welcoming immigrants and refugees and integrating them into the system as well as preserving diversity and their unique cultures and showing them respect. There can be no Epic Games in the future without Steam migrants, it's necessary. It's not a great replacement, it's just making something even grander and bigger, as we are all united in our differences. Epic Games needs migrants from Steam, GOG, Itch.io, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, and they will make up majority of it's population in the future, and that's a good thing.
>>
>>732326323

I'd rather own my games. Modern gaming is more and more as the years go by pretty much for pay pigs that fell for the "premium gaming" meme, which is why instead of getting a switch 2, or waiting for the next PS or XB, I'm enjoying the entire 64 library on my analogue.

Trying to compete with Steam in the same market using the same strategies but worse in every way is not a good idea.
There are two ways out: the first is to explore niches (see how well dlsite does because it specializes in Japanese hentai games that are not accepted almost anywhere else, and see how American corporations have been trying to destroy the site).
The second is to create something for the extremely long term in an attempt to start capturing new audiences, very young children who don't yet have libraries on Steam, so that in 15 or 20 years you will have a solid base.
But imagine trying to explain to your shareholders that you're trying something new, that there's no guarantee it will work, and that it will take 20 years to bear fruit... It's easier to convince them that it's a good idea to bury their money in a failed Steam clone.
