I was trying Frontier today and I have to say
One of the best improvements made to farming games was putting character icons on the map

I admit it was strange in the beginning, but in a way it also made you memorize the characters routines more naturally.
Also DS had a dedicated second screen just for that, making navigation more convenient. Having to pause the game to look at a map can be kinda annoying after a while.

Well anon, ideally it would be something that unlocked more quests and opportunities to get to know more about the character. In most games character development ends when you marry them.
Also there should be no divorce option, otherwise why even bother adding marriage to begin with.
Would be nice to have some things you could only do after marriage, even if repetitive idk, special festivals, go out on a picnic with your family, other NPCs could also marry and have children and they would interact with yours, etc.
There are a lot of opportunities to improve, but most devs aren't interested in building something that complex, either because they don't have time, money or are just drones that don't care and are happy producing slop that merely imitates Stardew Slopvalley.

Surely you'd want to stop having children at some point, right anon?

It's just a cosmetic thing, but I think it would be cute if the characters had last names, and you can give the player a last name and have your spouse take yours after marriage. Two characters in rf4 already have last names.
