Mario Land is fun but I can beat it in 30 min.
Mario Land is great because its fucking weird and I'm glad Nintendo is starting to accept it more by having the maoi heads show up in MKW. Also, SML2 is one of the best 2D Mario games.
>>732331808https://store.steampowered.com/app/2729380/CHAM_THE_CAT_ADVENTURE/Play this then, nigga.>>732331861Agreed. Blew my mind as a kid to have something that felt closer to an SNES game on the same GameBoy that Mario Land 1 was on.
I don't like to jump with the A button
>>732331986The difference in the graphics is the craziest part, I'm curious just how much spare overhead Mario Land 1 had since it was so minimal.
It's a cool little game but 2 is better
I like how this game had a great soundtrack with very varied themes and melodies, and then Mario Land 2 comes along and build its entire OST around literally one single melody so that decades later music theory youtubers could soipog over it.I hate Leitmotif overuse so much
it's good that it's short since the best part of it is the ending songhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcQcC0OxU1o
>>732332083https://youtu.be/B8fdhRmx108?si=b5spdhQdLpy3DDzEOne of the best Mario OSTs, this track is my favorite.
>>732331808>Mario's back for his best adventure yet!It was nice for being on game boy but let's not get carried away here
Its the most gotyest of all soundtracks. Tom Brier has an amazing cover of birabuto:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPa4i-ASpqs
>>732331808Once as a kid I beat the first Super Mario Land in every alternate GBA color palette in a single day
>>732332662For me it's orc Mario in the world of blood
>>732331808But anon, FLYING HEADS!THAT DISPLAYS A GREAT IM-A-GIN-AT-ION!
>>732331808that's why it's land and not world
Mario Land 3 is the best one
>>732332662:)
>>732331808it takes you 30 minutes to get off?
>>732332662>the first Super Mario Land>image is of the second Super Mario LandIt was a weird game and worthy of discussion in itself. The second stage music on the moon gave me an existential crisis at the ripe old age of 12. I started getting really worried about all the time that had passed in my short life, and how every day would bring me closer to my parent's deaths. Decades later and I still feel weird hearing this music, it really gets under your skin>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4N9jtYTb_Y&list=PL4C2B927EC9AE13C7&index=20
>>732331808I didnt appreciate how there was no save file so you had to start at 1-1 every time you wanted to play it. There was a shitty power rangers gba game that did the same thing.
>>732331808Its portable mario for the trainride to wageslaving, that's the point.
>>732331808Bro the whole game is like 36kb. It was more about the novelty of playing a Mario game in your hand than quality. Although the sequels and Wario games got pretty good over time. The ending music is actually kind of a amazing for a first-run Game Boy cartridge.https://youtu.be/VztCEY5wFW4?si=iDCNgBqxTJCO-a_c&t=25
>>732331861>SML2 is one of the best 2D Mario games.Short, but the style is extremely nice to look at, and it's fun
>>732338650Dude, the game only has twelve short levels. What the fuck do you need a save for? You can beat the whole game faster than you can beat world one of SMB3.
>>732339456>Bro the whole game is like 36kb.That's the same size as SMB1 on NES. Rom size is not the issue, game size is. And no, those are not tied to each other, there are games with over 1000 levels that are smaller than that.
>>732331808most game boy games were short like that back then. Link's Awakening was actually initially complained about for being too long and big when it first released.
>>732339456>36kbShit, SMB1 is like 40kb. Isn't it surreal that only a few decades ago 40kb was enough to make a ground breaking, industry defining game and now you got all this generic sloppa that doesn't even look very good and it's at least 100gb?
>>732339456>>732339789>>732339884God, imagine how much better SMB1 would have been if it had been 80 GB instead
>>732339884This might have to do with how much storage and access speeds have exploded over the last 2 decades. The overhead is to the point where devs don't feel nearly as compelled to optimize their games.
>>732339884Back then every line of code mattered. Every physics equation mattered. The framerate syncing with the televisions' refresh rate mattered. You couldn't waste space in a cartridge, those cost serious money to manufacture compared to the 2c of plastic for DVDs and the literally nothing of today. Today who cares? People constantly stream 10 GB TV shows, game data is just electrons passing through wires now. Also the game creation is mostly done in Unreal Editor which is all drag and drop shit.>Oh is this asset 700mb? Whatever. It looks good here. What do you mean remove the side you can't see so it doesn't get rendered? Who do you think I am? Johnny Polygons? Fuck you. It's an extra 2 seconds of downloading, who cares? AI will raise the framerate for me.
>>732331861>SML2 is one of the best 2D Mario games.splendid taste anon. It really was and still is. Extremely charming game
It fucking sucked, I thought its gonna be cool like Super Mario Land 2 but instead I’ve got a temu mario from nes
