The correct aspect ratio is the aspect ratio everyone was playing at back in the day which was 4:3 not 8:7

8:7 is an emulator-only aspect ratio which makes it inherently soulless.

SNES ran games at 256x224, which is a pixel aspect ratio of 8:7, however the games were intended to be displayed on 4:3 CRT TVs and due to how CRTs work they always display every line as the full width of the screen. In practice this means that the 8:7 pixel aspect ratio was stretched into 4:3 and that's what everyone who played the games on original hardware back in the day saw (including the developers testing their games). This is also what you will see if you connect even a modern PC running an emulator at the correct resolution to a CRT TV, the image will be 4:3. 4:3 is what the games are meant to look like.

I prefer 8:7 cause most devs didn't care to correct shapes, including nintendo themselves
