The old darwin shield was ironically a big contributor as to why Sniper wasn't as hated as today.

pre 2017 shield was perfect to fuck over sniper mains by punishing them from quickscoping and something said often during that period was "if the ennemy sniper run the shield, you need to run it too". But by trying to compensate his weakness on surviving that sniper fight let him open against so many classes.

>scout could one shot him with a sandman with or without the guillotine and the bullet resistance barely made a difference.
>soldier with the direct hit could fuck him from a longer distance with that 20% weakness to explosive
>demo could caber more easily even overhealed sniper
>pills could be one shot with random damage spread pre 2015
>loch-n-load was a confirmed kill everytime before 2015
>the razorback was so useless as the risk of a sniper quickshot was way riskier than a backstab and sniper main
>pyro could easily fuck the sniper either with a combo or just the flare gun

It's funny how an overused secondary who ruined all sniper fun made the whole TF2 game balance healthy. 2 negatives making a positive type of story.
