>According to Sonic and Mega Man writer, Ian Flynn, the Kirby adaptation was proposed after a pitch for a Super Mario comic series which got cancelled. Nintendo had proposed three more IPs of theirs, including Metroid, Fossil Fighters and Kirby. While Ian Flynn wasn't there for said pitch, he was brought up to be one of the writers if it were to be greenlit. No known plot lines or conflicts were mentioned to be planned, however, Flynn has stated that he would have enjoyed writing a story arc based on the "Dark Matter trilogy", implying adaptations of Kirby's Dream Land 2, Kirby's Dream Land 3, and Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards.

>The existing sketches include one page of character drawings, and two pages detailing how a proper comic page would be stylized. The character drawings include multiple characters introduced in Kirby's Dream Land and Kirby's Dream Land 2, notably many of Kirby's enemies such as King Dedede and Whispy Woods, as well as the Animal Friends. The page also includes Kirby riding a Wheelie Scooter from Kirby Air Ride.

>The two paneled pages feature a battle between Kirby and Meta Knight. Kirby, inside a room, inhales a Blade before it can attack him, and obtains the Sword Copy Ability (which it does not normally provide). After this, Meta Knight, makes his appearance. Kirby hovers up to a hanging chandelier, and Meta Knight follows and slashes the chains holding the lamp from the ceiling.

>While Archie stopped running Sonic the Hedgehog and Mega Man comics years ago, there’s really nothing stopping Nintendo from making the publisher home to its various properties. Might Flynn’s Tweets stir up interest in such a collaboration coming to pass? One can only hope!

We really dodged a bullet right there

>"Oi mate, this is just like in Kirby's Toy Box where I was a robot blowing stuff up. Did you use your Love-love stick from Kirby's Dream Land 2 to purge the Dark Matter who came here due to the events of a Kirby's Adventure and Kirby's Dream Course? I gotta feeling if you don't stop him soon it'll be a real Nightmare in Dreamland."

This is decade+ old news

The funniest part of these Archie Nintendo pitches is they were going in at literally the same time as the Penders suit to own his Knuckles knockoffs. The Nintendo execs probably had a hard time not laughing when showing them the door.

>The Nintendo execs probably had a hard time not laughing when showing them the door.
The Nintendo execs encouraged them to continue and were the ones who suggested the other IPs. Sometimes this stuff just happens but an agreement can't be made. Remember that Nintendo almost owned Harry Potter but just couldn't offer what Warner/Universal could.

I don’t think the Penders case had anything to do with it. From Nintendo’s perspective there’s no point in licensing comics, especially ones that would only be available in America. Sonic got away with it due to legacy + a way larger western fanbase, and Archie Megaman was essentially life support for the IP while Capcom twiddled their thumbs.

on a related note, remember the ARMs graphic novel that never released?

>make a book starring a main character who can only babble like a retarded baby
What a strange pitch

That's literally just the anime

In the games and light novels Kirby is more than capable of speaking. He's just illiterate.

Kirby games are already self referential enough but at least they use those references as building blocks for new ideas
>>
Why does /v/ hate Ian anyways?
>>
Makes me so incredibly fucking mad. Archie made TMNT fun. Archie made Sonic fun. Archie even made fucking Archie fun, having him fight the predator and shit.

Just let them make things fun. What is Nintendo so fucking high and mighty about?

He writes for franchises he doesn’t understand. Like he understands the details 100% that any sonic autism would be impressed but doesn’t actually understand the soul of the classic adventure - unleashed games.
He wrote for Archie sonic and him and the other writers are trying to turn new sonic into Archie

/v/ used to love Ian, and wish for him to become the head writer for the games. However, about a decade ago, the Sonic comics fanbase as well as every other fanbase on earth was infested by stupid newfags whose only modus operandi was contrarianism for attention.

Lots of autistic reasons, but the gist of it is he has bad writing habits. Overly referential, his plots drag on for too long, he spends too much time world building instead of just telling a fucking story, and more.

He did good work salvaging the Archie Sonic comic from the mess Penders and company left behind, and /v/ actually loved Ian for it. But after a while it became its own kind of mess, and he fell off as a writer. This did not improve when he moved on to IDW Sonic, sadly, and now the comic is being written by someone who is far worse as a writer.

I don't think this is accurate. He's written too much fan material for the series to not understand Sonic. No, I think he understands Sonic just fine. More than fine, even. The issue is that, like many Sonic fans, he wants to write HIS Sonic, and ONLY his Sonic. Which, to him, is SatAM and Archie Sonic. He obviously stopped caring about the actual games after a certain point, and it really shows.
>>
It's Kirby, how could anyone fuck it up? It's the easiest thing in the world, just draw a cute puffball doing cool things and eating. Flynn couldn't fuck that up.

It’s very funny watching people shit their pants in rage whenever Ian puts a lyric reference in dialog like they weren’t clapping like seals when he did it in Archie.
