What do you think about serious sam5?
>>
>>732339603
It was ok but I do want them to advice the story and not just go back in time again and again
>>
>>732339603
Sometimes I wonder if Serious Sam was ever good. I know we used to think it was but /v/ also shilled SS3 which really really sucked
>>
>>732339732
What are we defining as "good" here, because I don't think I've ever straight up not had fun playing a Serious Sam game.
>>
First one I probably won't be buying.
>>
>>732339603
They dropped in house engine so it will run on UE5 and be shit from the get go, I'll pass on that.
>>
>>732339603
I don't have a time lock.
>>
Primo bargain bin sloppies. Enjoyed it when I was fifteen and had a family computer that couldn't run much else. Serious Sam 2 is the peak. 3 and 4 are shit. The PS2 title was mildly interesting but generally crap.

Slavs can't make good games.
>>
Personally, I think serious sam series was never good
>you walking into the new area? Yeah fuck you have some enemies
>you pick new item? Yeah fuck you have tons of enemies
>you find secret? Yeah fuck you have a insta death
Also I hate frogs

that's all the things that make it good
I have masochistic tendencies btw
>>
Tolerable up until the Metropolis, after that it goes full arenaslop and gets tiring
>>
>>732340720
SS2 is almost a funny self aware romp but its so stupid and jank that it wraps around on itself multiple times over landing in mega genuine retardation instead of so bad its good. A remake with a director that has an functioning liver could make it into a classic
>>
>>732339603
had so much fun playing coop campaign and arena in second and first encounter you wouldn't believe
now its dead
rip those comrades loved them
>>
>>732340506
>Already memory-holed SS4 running like doodoo dogshit
Talos 2 uses fucking ray tracing and manages to run better than that piece of shit.
>>
>>732341253
SS4 ran fine for me, only thing that sucked is the settings not being finely tuned which is why it probably ran worse for you.
>>
>>732339603
i quit playing his games after 3 i just didnt like it that much
>>
Sam should win the war
No matter what Sam does, mental wins, which is ridiculous
>>
>>732339603
i think it's not out yet
or even announced
>>
>>732339603
2 is fucking awesome, replayed it like 20 times as a kid
There's no game that's similar

>Serious Sam 5 is most likely going to end up being a live-service cash grab just like that new Painkiller game
>>
The best way to play serious sam is Coop
>>
>>732340684
very much my experience, couldnt believe how well that game ran and looked on my fucking emachine with a shitty pci card. thought we were going to see a lot of great new shooters because of what that engine could do.
>>
>>732339732
TFE and TSE are kino and pure soul, SS 2 is cringe, SS3 is ok
The core gameplay itself aged like fine wine imo, if you want an fps that feels like 1 man vs army there's really not many like it, Painkiller and co. don't quite do it
>>
did they fix 4 in any way since launch?
>>
There is news about 5?

>>
Serious 5am
>>
>>732342110
Somewhat, core issues are not fixable really, the engine is still severely outdated and the frametimes are jumpy. But the game isn't as buggy at least.
>>
>>732341253
T2 also has almost nothing going on in terms of enemies, NPCs, super-elaborate set-pieces and the like.
Hell, even then they had to do shit like freeze all the vegetation whenever you moved to squeeze out a few more frames.
>>
>>732342110
Just play Siberian Mayhem, it's way better.
>>
>>732342228
I did play it, I just wonder if it's worth replaying, since I upgraded my PC last year.

I'll never forget my disappointment at just how poorly the game ran on my less than 1 year old Ryzen 3600 and 2070S.

are you serious ?

Seriously yes please.

>Sometimes I wonder if Serious Sam was ever good.
Yes, it is.
The problem with the series is the inconsistent level design. You have an incredible battle followed by the most stupid part ever thought up by a level designer. This has happened throughout the franchise, for various reasons: inexperience, lack of time, development hell, etc.
But the fundamentals of the game are very good when they work. Even Serious Sam 4, the most problematic game in the series, has customized levels with extremely high-quality gameplay:

The most rampant issues, yes, sorta, kinda.
It's still unpolished as fuck and occasionally borderline embarrassing.
Performance is still kinda crap, the story and dialog are pretty much unfixable, level design and secrets are still mediocre, you can still skip entire parts of a level by simply walking around them, tons of details like the miniguns on the mech being still static are left broken, the baked lighting is still shit and has weird colored splotches everywhere, the skilltree is still unbalanced, melee animations are still pathetic, etc.
>>
>>732342169
The dev is a fan of SS and Croteam probably can't afford to be picky about who they collaborate with anyway.
>>
>>732342169
A good chunk of enemies in the game are more or less copies of SS ones, including Beheaded, Kamikazes and Biomechs.

>>
>>732346717
With how Talos 2 looks it makes me wonder just how badly they were held back by having to update their in-house Engine.

It's alright. I can find bettet random Doom WADs though.

If they just retooled Serious Engine 4 a bit instead of trying to shove their retarded terrain engine and legion system into it they probably would still use it.
What truly held them back was insane feature creep, inept new staff (some ended up working on fucking GOLLUM, ffs) and Alen Ladavac leaving.
