it's proof that most people haven't actually played any of the new super mario bros games beyond maybe the very first DS one but will essentially player new super mario bros and enjoy it if it's presented much more nicely and makes a big deal about it's gimmicks with a WOAH WONDER FLOWER TRANSFORMATION instead of just having the gimmicks occur normally. the badges were massively underutiilized especially as each normal level had to be designed assuming you had none of them equipped. the funnest part of the whole game was the badge challenge levels.

I 100% cleared Mario World, then moved onto Wonder.
Very easy game, there was exactly 1 challenge i struggled at for like 30 minutes, the rest of the game is very easy, but very fun.

Most of the wonder flowers in this game are just the third or fourth stage of a level's yonkoma structure with a few of the super out-there ones like that one where the walls become the floor or a top-down area. All in all it's just a fifth NSMB with a better artstyle but the core design is strong enough that it really doesn't bother me and it's still a blast to go through.

It is a pretty good 2D Mario, but it is nowhere near challenging enough. It has tons and tons of fun ideas, none of which are built upon to really challenge the player. It's basically just introducing a new thing and then moving on to the next thing, before offering any interesting challenge with the gimmick.

Like others said, it's fun and the wonder flower gimmicks made things interesting, but it's too easy. Even the bonus world was too easy. I want stuff like SMW's Special World that has ball crushing difficulty.

This might sound like a weird criticism, but I feel like this shit needs more playable characters. I played it with my three friends and we all wanted to pick Daisy. If you're gonna have four Yoshis, at least also have four princesses. Put Rosalina and Pauline in there.

Facts. They had the perfect setup to really crank up the difficulty with the post-game levels and then just… didn't. Even the "hard" badges feel like gimmick filters rather than genuine challenges. It’s like Nintendo got scared people might actually die more than twice in a row.

I blame the badge system. They couldn't design hard levels because they have to design for all badge-types to be usable, limiting what they can get away with level design wise.

The problem is modern Mario is targeted at kids, while SMW, Mario 1-3 (and lost worlds), and Yoshi's Island were geared towards older players. You'd never get a game like DKC 2/3 with multiple secret worlds that are brutally hard to even access.

Art direction's a big step up, and introducing so many new enemies was great. Level design is pretty boring since the game is clearly designed around there being multiple players so there's nothing too demanding, not even in the late game. Also the Wonder Flowers may be the weakest part of the game since many of them don't augment the course designs but just reduce what your character's capable of, so it just turns into glorified mini-games where the gameplay is compartmentalized into very simple inputs.

I think it was spoiled for me by Mario Maker 2. After seeing all the cool courses and ideas people had, and I'm not even talking about puzzle/troll/kaizo stuff, it's hard to go back. And then the DLC for Switch 2 is just gonna be more mini-games and tutorials for a game people have already played? Like what the fuck, man, hahaha.

Too many gimmicks and never any development of them. Most aren't that interesting, or not utilized to their full potential.
It's usual for mario games to have no challenge until the last world, but this just didn't have any challenge anywhere.
Worse than any of the NSMB games except maybe the 3DS one. Wii is the best.
