Where were you when ZUN absolutely btfo storyfags and fictionfags? The simple truth is that story always comes in last in video games. Unless you have good gameplay, the story doesn't matter shit.
>>732348247Poor guy is having a mental collapse.
>literal who shmup autist Jap why should I care about any of this?
i dont need no fagit writer filosofizing to me.
>>732348247I agree but touhou doesn't have good gameplay so your point is null
>>732349498This, kek.
Didn't this guy write those official manga
>>732348247>Where were you when ZUN absolutely btfo storyfags and fictionfags? The words he wrote suggests he has autism or something, that doesn't make a "btfo" moment, more I'm concerned for his well-being
>>732348247Extremely based takeIf only that guy made good games as well
>>732348247He finds it painful just to follow the events of a story? That's concerning.Him talking about not needing to sympathize with the characters, I actually sort of think I get. There's this huge amount of people who seem to process stories in terms of who is "right" and who is "wrong" and absolutely nothing else. All it sounds like is that he doesn't get super attached to the first character he identifies as "right" like most people do. He even acknowledges that you've got to have a story there or none of the gameplay means much.
>>732348247thats why i only watch comedy and action movies.
>>732348247What would a ZUN and Kojima collab look like? Could it be done?
>>732348247This just shows he's autistic and gameplay doesn't matter, Story is the only thing that's important.
>>732351638>>732351398>>732348376What exactly is concerning about not liking fiction?t. NTA who doesn't enjoy fiction that much
>>732348247>I prefer the battle system and the parts where you collect items
>>732351638>There's this huge amount of people who seem to process stories in terms of who is "right" and who is "wrong" and absolutely nothing else. This reminds me of the kind of people, who take fiction extremely seriously to an almost pathetic level. People like video essayists, redditors, or some anons in general. It's not just this weird moralfagging about how "villain Y was actually right because of X" or how "character Z deserved BETTER", because you disagree with writers' decisions. Even worse are the types who look at every story, like they're reading Moby Dick. It's kinda like this weird overly serious take on things like "Fallout 4's MC is a war criminal because a new writer said so". Like why exactly would it be such a big deal? Who gives a shit? It doesn't affect the game itself in any way, nor does it really change anything in the actual story. A fictional character did something terrible in a fictional world according to a later writer? Woe is me. Maybe Iago was "right" in Othello and did nothing wrong, but who gives an actual shite?
To be fair touhou dosen't need that much story since it's more characters and lore focused. The individual game plots don't matter as much as the whole.
>>732352271Disliking fiction is fine, finding it painful just to try and follow a story isn't.
Funny coming from a guy who made an insanely popular series where maybe a quarter of the fan base at best has actually played the games
>>732348247>guy who doesn't give a shit about stories says games don't need stories (still agrees they're useful)and what i'm supposed to take from this?
>>732352964This is precisely the shit that keeps lukewarm sludge like Fear & Hunger, Black Souls, OFF, and Look Outside popular while actual gameplay-oriented JRPGs such as Hat World and Enchant Farm get completely disregarded.
Isn't ZUN an alcoholic?
>>732353585In his defence, 99% of stories are extremely poorly written.
>>732348247based drunk autistic ojisan
>>732348247>Watching a movie or reading a book is painfulguy can't imagine an apple in his head.
>>732348247Story is what the player does. Narrative is what is unneeded, and can only be detrimental; if it ever differs from what the player wants to do.
>>732351638Have you seen media the last 15 years? You can't empathize with the characters; at best you can empathize with the 'villain' but overall the experience is still negative.
>>732355124I don't need to empathize with individual characters for a story to not be "painful".
>>732354903Narrative is good. I want the game to occasionally remind me that I have a goal other than whatever reward light I like seeing blink the most.
>>732354221Hat world had a pretty good story though.
>>732354534This has always been true, so acting like it's okay to disregard stories in general over it is kind of silly.
>>732348247>>>>btfo storyfags>It's just ZUN talking about him not caring about a story because he can't follow them (probably because his brain got fried from drinking too much)Once again, OP is a huge faggot>>732352964>This reminds me of the kind of people, who take fiction extremely seriously to an almost pathetic level. People like video essayists, redditors, or some anons in general. There is nothing wrong with that. People are free to talk in depth about any aspect they like about a game, inlcuding its narrative. It only becomes an issue when you're not inserting shit that you can tell wasn't something the author thought about, basically pulling a Game Theory/Matpat>>732354534More like 90% because of Sturgeon's lawAnd besides, that's still retarded. By this logic, why watch movies or play games when most of them are trash?
