This game is objectively mediocre at best.
Why does it feel so rewarding to grind?
The combat system doesn't even make sense. The animations and sound effects are constantly disjointed from the actual applications of damage, and if you're unlucky enough to get aggro'd by 2 or more enemies, you're dead.
Why does it feel so good to level up? And acquire new gear? And increase my stats?
I should not enjoy this game as much as I do.

thats the sign of a masterpiece. its the opposite from modern games where they put so much into the wrong aspects but still lack soul

I think the worldbuilding had the largest impact, along with highly populated servers making the game feel alive. Normally I dislike pointless grinding, like in idle games, where even if you take your attack damage from 1 to 1,000,000, I still found them boring. I think the fantasy of becoming a powerful warrior and hopefully contributing to the war between Horde and Alliance was what drove me on a deeper level. Something about the context of the setting made me care about progression much more than other games.

Simple: Because playing vanilla WoW actually took some minor brain power and skill.

You're right, enemies CAN fuck you up. Leveling takes a while, requiring some dedication. Getting a group together without party finder requires an actual amount of social interaction.

There are higher barriers to doing ANYTHING in game, which makes every action MEAN something.

Getting to level 60 in vanilla was a genuine accomplishment. People assume the casual/hardcore line is between people who raid and people who don't, but in vanilla just getting to end game at all took a lot of dedication and time. The reward was real.

Og wow is a masterclass in delayed dopamine, zoom zoom
>>
>>732353534
Delayed gratification. Zoomers don't know what this is.
>>
>>732353534
Leveling curve is actually perfect.
>>
>>732353534
It's because there's a constant barrage of things to look forward to. New skills to buy, new talents to unlock, new items to equip, new dungeons to run, new zones to quest in, etc. Having to work towards it helps too, so there's a sense of accomplishment.

It's a dying gameplay loop.
>>
>The animations and sound effects are constantly disjointed from the actual applications of damage
it’s purposefully done to feel smoother, little stuff like your model procedurally staggering when taking hits is done to give wow a tight feel, obviously there’s no way the server could handle that so it’s interpolated

>>732353534
because its based on real life believe it or not

Oh look, someone else said the exact same thing.

No, really, you're brainfucked. The game is built to exploit people like you and you're too dumb to realize it. They hired psychologists and everything.

LMAO

Time sure, it was tedious garbage meant to pad out subs. It took 0 skill

killing the journey in favor of raiding was such a retarded choice
>>

Because you are just a fucking subhuman

both are losing choices

It's not retarded when it's the #1 thing causing people to wash out before cap.
>>
>>732353534
>The animations and sound effects are constantly disjointed from the actual applications of damage
it's the exact opposite. the feeling of wow combat is one of the reasons why people like it so much.
>>
>>732361101
that's from a raiding centric pov
>>
>>732353534
TBC is going to be boring raid logging within 2 weeks. Watch. The playerbase is going to lose interest because of the nerfed raiding. I think Arena weapons are going to only require 1700 ranking so if you fuck around youll be able to get those easy too so you won't really even have to raid.
>>
>>732361715
No it's not.
>>
>>732361891
you can only "wash out" before cap if you consider the goal to be raiding

vanilla wasn't designed like that
>>
>>732361992
Wrong. The design was to keep people subscribed for as long as possible and address pain points in older MMOs.
>>
there are tons of mediocre games that people like

wait until you find out over 100,000 grown men play old school RuneScape every day of their lives.
>>
When the classic reboot happened I tried WoW for the first time and found leveling to be really fun. The huge amount of activity was definitely a part of that. I heard that there's a similar thing with TBC happening this month? Is it worth it to resubscribe for that? If there's a lot of activity I might like to try leveling an alliance character.
>>
>>732362439
wait I saw you just post that in /atoga/
>>
>>732362589
Tbc is vanilla with better balance in an expansion setting with tons of content so yes its good and you'll probably like it if liked vanilla but it isn't that "classic plus" game everyone is dreaming about
>>
>>732362845
i have a set of curated responses i come up with every day so i can get actual engagement. i do actually come up with said statements myself of course.
>>
>>732362439
Hell, the original Everquest is still getting expansions.
>>
>>732361992
If people are quitting before cap that means they dont enjoy leveling, which normal people dont because its dogshit

>>732367268
What the fuck else is there to play thats an MMO? This genre is effectively dead. You have OSRS, WoW, and maybe GW2 if you hate RPG elements and want gear that doesn't do anything. FFXIV is a visual novel that lost most of its playerbase to the point FFXI is somehow doing ok again. What else is there? Maplestory Classic isn't even out and it looks like its still far off.

Fuck off to the trenches shitnna.

the devs were actually put thought into what would make the game fun rather than what would bait whales into spending the most money
